10 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 24, 1980 Work began Monday in Green Line Acres, at the east edge of Milford, on a new home being built by Ron and Gloria Baumgartner. Their close neighbors will be the Glen Prices, Steve Baumgartners and Bruce Bultemeiers. Do you remember this area had snow on Friday, Sept. 25,1942? Mr. and Mrs. Kerry M. Price, r 1 box 102 D, Milford, are the parents of a daughter, Kara Sue, bom Saturday morning, Sept. 20, at 6:20 a.m. in Goshen Hospital. She weighed eight pounds, nine ounces and measured 19 inches long. The Prices have a son, Kevin, two years old. Former Milford resident, Rose Shuder, currently residing at Grace Village in Winona Lake, is donating SI,OOO to the Milford Community Building Fund in memory of her late husband, Cleveland Shuder. Carl (“Buddy”) Bice, 506 West Emetine Street, Milford, has enrolled in the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Purdue University this fall. Rev. Paul Fulp, pastor of the Milford United Methodist Church, will be leaving his pastorship and the ministry before the end of the year. 20 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 23,1970 Robbie Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brooks of Milford, celebrated his third birthday Sunday at his home with cake and ice cream being served. Kris Phend, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Parker H. Phend of 244 N. Main street, Milford, was recently initiated into Alpha Omicron Pi social security at DePauw university where she is a sophomore this year. Mr. and Mrs. Max Beer of Milford are the parents of a son, Max Jesse, born at 12:30 noon, September 16, at Goshen, hospital. The baby weighed nine pounds, one ounce and measured 20 inches in length. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hurd and Rhonda spent Sunday at Ball State college visiting their daughter Brenda who is enrolled there. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Milford United Methodist church for Herbert Baumgartner, 70, well-known Milford resident and retired businessman. Baumgartner died at 10 a m. Saturday as he was walking in his garden. He suffered a heart attack. 30 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 22,1960 In Milford the new Ford Falcon will be on display next Thursday, Sept. 29, at the C. S. Myers Ford Agency. Mr. Myers states there will be a full line of new models on display. Cindy Lee Kinney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kinney, celebrated her sth birthday yesterday. A party was given at her home in honor of the occasion last night. Pam and Larry, children of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kaiser, had as guests Saturday, Ramona and Bradley Taylor, children of Mrs. Alice Taylor. Kay Kaiser was a guest of Kathy Taylor and helped her celebrate her 10th birthday. Joseph Jessop planned a good deed, but found his best efforts went awry. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Kurman Dale Jessop, Joseph planned to wash his dad’s car, a shiny rust Plymouth. No one told Joseph steel wool wasn’t the thing to use on a new car finish, and when the soap suds were washed away, he found a washed car all right, but one not exactly to his dad’s pleasure. 50 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 26, 1940 Wade Mishler spent Sunday in Akron, Ohio, where he visited a former classmate at the Indiana Embalmers College, Dale Sheets. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hartter and daughter Harriet and son David were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Closson and daughter Susan of Bremen. Mr. and Mrs. Roman Slabaugh became the parents of a son, Larry Parker, last Thursday morning at the McDonald hospital, Warsaw. The Slabaughs also have three daughters. Serving our country Address for Sgt. Routson Airman Patricia (Patty) Routson, daughter of Pamela Mackey, Syracuse, and Donald Routson, Ligonier, has been promoted to sergeant while serving with the United States Air Force in Saudi Arabia.
