Rightly dividing the word of truth
By MARIETTA FULLER There are those who say they are no longer sinners because of the following Scripture from 1 John 3:9: “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin ...” But the Bible says in the preceding verse, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us,” In Romans 3:23, we are told, “Lo all have sinned ...” Notice the words, “doth not commit sin.” When one believes in Y’shua Jesus, that He is the Son of God (Acts 8:37), he not only has everlasting life but has a new nature as Jesus lives within him in the Spirit (Galatians 2:20). However when one sins, he is in the old Adamic nature until he confesses his sins. It is helpful to know that John is

For over 25 years, he has been a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, whose members must sell at least $2 million of insurance per year. Fleck’s life began on a farm and following a miracle of healing he felt the call of God to sing for His glory. He has answered this call by singing in nearly every country in the world. Guest preacher at the New Salem revival is Dr. White, senior pastor of the Good Shepherd Church of the Brethren, Bradenton, Fla. There, the archives hold 175 years of the congregation’s minutes, as well as histories of South Bend Jewish communities, Wabash cemeteries, Terre Haute congregations, Indianapolis families and more. Each file, labelled by location, documents the many contributions of Indiana Jews. Started in 1972 for the purpose of collecting, preserving and publishing its people’s history, the society puts out a quarterly newsletter. Over the years, it has distributed another 26 publications on the state’s Jewish people. In addition to the society’s 700 members — some of whom are both non-Hoosiers and non-Jews — the material goes to libraries and similar historical societies throughout the country. When the Indiana society first began, Levine recalls there were only about two local Jewish historical societies nationwide.

Today, there are about 100 such societies, yet very few have fulltime directors like Levine. Os the over 3,000,000 people that live in the state, Levine estimates no more than 30,000 of them are Jewish- — one percent of the state’s population. And for that very reason, the society has taken careful steps to preserve the minority’s heritage. From the first Jewish settler in Fort Wayne to the one-time prospering Jewish community of Ligonier, Levine recalls his research clearly. The first Jewish resident come to Fort Wayne to serve as the Indian agent of the territory. The year was 1820. Toward the end of the same century, a small Jewish community thrived in Ligonier. Today, about 180 Jews are buried in the cemetery and none live in town. Even early in his career Levine worked for his people’s cause. Having studied Jewish social work in graduate school, he was one of the first social workers to go to West Germany in 1945 and to work with death camp survivors.

“It was the richest, heart breaking and rewarding year of my life, helping to provide food, clothing and shelter for the Holocaust survivors. ’ ’ His work now is to ensure others — Jews and Gentiles, young and old — do not forget his people’s rich history in the state. New Bible study at Friends Church “Citizens of New Jerusalem” is the title of a new study of the Biblical book of Revelation, which is being taught at the Dewart Lake Community Friends Church. Revelation is considered by many to be a difficult book to understand, and others have been confused by the conflicting interpretations of Biblical scholars. Pastor Lou Herchenroeder teaches the course, and brings a fresh and honest approach to Revelation. A prophetic understanding for today’s church is drawn from the words addressed to the first century church. The messages of hope and promise replace the message of doom found in other interpretations. The new study began Sunday, Sept. 16, and will meet for 13 weeks at Quaker Haven Camp on Sundays from 9-9:45 a.m. The camp is located at the intersection of county roads 900 N and 500 S. Interested persons are encouraged to take a notebook and a Bible. For more information, call 834-7614. Dutchtown to hold forum
Members of the Dutchtown Brethren Church, in conjunction with C.A.S.A. Ministries, are pleased to announced that on Sunday evening, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m., they will be presenting a seminar entitled “Satanism: What you need to know.” CASA Ministries is a counseling service that formed in a little town just west of Dayton, Ohio, due to a real need for someone to assist those choosing to leave various cults and the occult. Its director and founder is Pastor Darrell L. Crissman who, in March, accepted a call to pastor the Dutchtown congregation. CASA is an acronym which stands for Counter Attacking Satan & Associates. According to Pastor Crissman, “In today’s world, the Bible is constantly being confirmed as we witness the very real, yet classical, struggle between Satan and God. Today, we are encountering a direct confrontation between followers of Satan and followers of God.” And, as the title suggests, the seminar will deal with what we need to know. Pastor Crissman will address issues such as: Is all of this supernatural hocus-pocus real? What is the reason for all of this? Why would anyone knowingly get
involved with stuff like this?. What are some of the things parents need to know to prevent their children from getting involved with such things? What should we, as Christians, know? What can Christians do? According to Pastor Crissman, this multi-media presentation will last approximately two hours. Plus, there will be a time to have questions answered. Due to the nature of Pastor Crissman’s topic, parental discretion is advised. The Dutchtown Brethren Church is located at the intersection of 400E and 300 N, which is just east of Chapman Lake and just north of Warsaw. For further information, contact Pastor Crissman at 269-1355 between 8 a m. and 12 p.m. Pork chop dinner at Milford church The Milford First Brethren Church will be cooking-up a pork chop dinner with salad and dessert buffet on Saturday, Sept. 22. Dinner will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, located on the corner of West Catherine and, North Henry streets.
