Drivers complain of pain; refuse medical attention

Syracuse Police investigated the following accidents during the past week: Drivers complained of pain following a two-vehicle accident Friday, Aug. 17, on SR 13, north of Pittsburg St., Syracuse, however, both refused medical attention. Driver inattention and and following too closely were contributing circumstances in the mishap. Police report Sean D. Beckstrom, 25, Brookfield, Toledo, Ohio, was traveling south on SR 13 in a 1974 GMC when his vehicle slid into the rear of a 1988 Pontiac driven by Kimberly A. Weisser, 25, High Street, Syracuse. Beckstrom stated he tried to stop when the Weisser vehicle stopped in front of him due to another vehicle stopping, but his vehicle slid. No damage estimates were available. Driver Inattention A driver trying to miss hitting a rabbit caused a one-vehicle accident at the Syra-Web Road and Wildwood. Dennis W. Mead, 45, South Bend, was traveling north on the Syra-Web Road in a 1986 Ford and as he approached the intersection, a rabbit jumped out in front of his vehicle and ran across the road. Mead stated he swerved the vehicle to miss the animal but went off the rod hitting a street sign. Damage was estimated up to SI,OOO to the vehicle and under S2OO to the sign. Improper Passing Police were called to investigate an accident Saturday, Aug. 11, at 12:37 p.m., at Red-D-Mart. No one was injured in the accident. Brian Losee, 33, CR 27, Goshen, was traveling north on SR 13 in a 1981 Chevrolet Citation. He told police when he was in front of the convenience mart, he waited for a car that was making a left hand turn. Losee decided to pass the vehicle on the right and as he did the car in front of him decided to turn right. Losee swerved his car

causing it to go over the grass area in front of the station. There was some damage to the hood of the car and grass, but no damage to a telephone guide wire. Heart Hint If there is an elderly, incapacitated or young person in your home who often is at a loss for something of interest, I have a sure-fire, tested solution: an outdoor bird bath. It is not a continual expense as is a bird feeder, but it is loved as dearly by our feathered friends. Place the bird bath near a large window where one can sit and watch the bird bath from inside the home. Note: If you purchase a plastic bird bath, fill the base with water, soil or stones for more stability. Even nursing homes could place bird baths in the view of sitting room windows and give pleasure to both birds and residents. Georgia W., Flushing, N.Y.
