10 YEARS AGO, AUG. 20, 1980 At the annual organization meeting of the Syracuse Lake Association held last Tuesday evening, the board of directors re-elected Kenneth L. Bowton as president. A new industry — Ener-Trek Company — began production of recreational vehicles in Vega Industrial Park in the building that formerly housed the Vega Corporation. Owner, Ray Franke, r 4, Syracuse (Lake Wawasee), was head of Commodore Corp’s RV Division for the past several years. Tammy Gallahan, Syracuse, has returned from Hawaii. She left with the Ambassador Travel Club, out of Indianapolis, on July 28 and returned August 7.

20 YEARS AGO, AUG. 19, 1970 The town of Syracuse spent a total of SIO,OOO for street improvement. and it is completed except for a strip from Vega Homes to the blacktop on Brooklyn Street, Ronald Sharp, Syracuse clerktreasurer, told the board at its meeting last night at the town hall. Mr. and Mrs. William A. Raynor Jr., and three children of Bryn Mawr, Pa., are spending 10 days with Mrs. Raynor's grandmother, Mrs. Roy Adams, r 4. Syracuse. A total of 743 participants were on hand Friday through Sunday at the Syracuse City Park for the “great event,” the Makahiki, consisting of sea explorers and Camp Fire Girls of the senior age group. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hubbart are away from their duties at Love Furniture for two weeks while they are showing sons, Rich arid Timmy,'around the state of Florida. They are to be home this week. she visited her son, Staff Sgt. Michael Tobin, at Lake Garda in northern Italy. Rev. and Mrs. Theodore Hertenstein and daughter, Syracuse, have returned from a 10-day camping trip. AUG. 18, 1960 At a joint meeting of the township trustee and the advisory board with town board members last Thursday night, a building to house the fire department. town and township offices was discussed. It was agreed to ask the Lessig engineers of Warsaw prepare a sketch of a building for these various uses. Merl Smith of Smith-Walbridge Camp w'as elected president of the United States Twirling Association at their annual business meeting Thursday in Elkhart.' Gareth Meek will teach seventh and eighth grade arithmetic and be responsible for cross country and freshman basketball this coming year at the local high school. Meek is a 1951 graduate of Syracuse High School and a graduate of Ball State Teacher's College. Ron Roberta, a 1958 graduate of Syracuse High School, now’ a junior in the School of Agriculture at Purdue, served as summer 4-H leader for Syracuse 4-H students this year. The Aug. 11 meeting of WSCSLydia Circle was held in the home of Mrs. Arthur Alexander in Epworth Forest. Mrs. Giles Porter assisted as co-hostess. The guest speaker was Mrs. Reil of Dayton, Ohio.
