20 YEARS AGO, AUG. 12,1970 Dr. Robert A. Craig, a member of the Lakeland School Board since 1966, has filed for reelection. He is currently serving as vice president of the board and is a resident of Turkey Creek Township. Gene Lawson of Syracuse set a Red Cross record on Aug. 4 by swimming Lake ' Wawasee and Syracuse Lakes in a recorded time of six hours and 20 minutes. Four hours and 35 minutes of that time went on record in swimming Wawasee. Mrs. H.C. Shipcott and sons, David and Clifford, of San Francisco, Calif., are spending a three-week vacation in the Syracuse homes of the J. Barton Cox’s and Lloyd Dishers, Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Elam and family of Syracuse have returned from a 10-day vacation which included a church conference at Bloomfield and a visit with Mrs. Elam’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Hamilton in Arkansas. Mr. and Mrs. George Grahn of Redding, Calif., have returned to their home following a visit in the home of his sister and husband, the first in 24 years, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Seiffert at Lake Wawasee. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Henning and family of Syracuse enjoyed a trip through Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum during the weekend. The Ronald Thornburg family has returned to their Oklahoma home following a visit in the home of his parents, the G.W. Thornburgs of Syracuse.

Town Board President Byron Connolly held out for the 1960 rate of $2.12, as against $2.64 proposed last week. Northern Indiana Public Service Company engineers have completed the design of the gas distribution system for the towns of Milford, Syracuse, and Ligonier, according to James D. Multi-Hints After I get a layer cake in pans as evenly as I can. I put the pans on my kitchen scale to weigh them. I 1 2 pounds each. I then have an even top to frost. I put brown sugar in a tightlysealed plastic container and have never found it to be hard when I want some. I’ve been doing this for 20 years. To save on energy and time when baking cookies, I put the cookies on cookie sheets before turning the oven on. I then put two pans in. When they’re done, I take them out and put two more in.
