Myrtle Brown Myrtle Brown, 88, formerly of Railroad Street, Claypool, died at 4:20 a m. Saturday, June 23,1990, in the home of her daughter in Lawrenceville, 111. Born May 27, 1902, in Magoffin County, Ky., she was the daughter of Sublett and Polly Salyers Howard. On June 20, 1921, in Salyersville, Ky„ she married Clarence Brown, who died December 25,1971. A Claypool area resident since moving from Kentucky in 1962, she was a member of Rose Hill United Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Corbin (Effie) Summers, Lawrenceville, Mrs. Robert (Ethel) Secor, Warsaw, and Mrs. Phillip (Sue) Pergrine, Fort Worth, Texas; four sons, Clyde Brown, Carson City, Nev., Larry Brown, Syracuse, Emery Brown, Alabama, and Clarence (Jack) Brown, Jr., Battle Creek, Mich.; 42 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three daughters and one son. Funeral services were held at 11 a m. Tuesday, June 26, in Chamness-Tucker Funeral Home, Claypool, with Leonard Adams, Jr., officiating. On February 24, 1940, he married Mona Firestone; she survives. A Syracuse area resident most of his life, he retired from Mogul Rubber Co., Goshen. Mr. Byrd was a member of Syracuse Church of God. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Howard (Sharon) Moser, Ligonier, and Mrs. Phil (Linda) Simcox, Larwill; one son, David Byrd, Mulberry; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Bessie Scarberry and Damie Knisley, both of Syracuse, Opal Dausman, Mishawaka, and lea Myrick, Fairmount, Ill.; and two brothers, Robert Byrd, Syracuse, and Elmer Byrd, Bremen. Huntington St., Syracuse, was taken to Goshen Hospital after he came to
Warsaw. He had been in failing health three years. Born August 12,1908, in Martin, Ky., he was the son of William Sinkaton and Martha Frazure Flannery. On April 25, 1931, he married Barbara Alice Bradley; she survives. For 43 years he was a coal miner in Kentucky. In 1962 he moved from Kentucky to the Claypool area and retired in 1974 from Da-Lite Screen, Warsaw. He was a member and minister for 53 years of the Old Regular Baptist Church, and assistant monitor for the Northern Little Dove Regular Baptist Church the past 15 years. Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Dan (Cassie) Bradley and Millie Prater, both of Warsaw, Mrs. Mander (Janavee) Prater, Roann, and Mrs. Orville (Tealie) Spear, Claypool; six sons, Orris Flannery, Milford, Alex Flannery, Columbia City, Marvin Flannery, Wertsmith AFB, Mich., Lloyd Flannery, Grafton, Va., and Lawrence Flannery, Blue River, Ky.; 31 grandchildren; 30 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Olive Bradley, Lukeville, Ohio, and Pauline Helton, Silver Lake; and one brother, Henry Flannery, Columbus, Ohio. Bishop, 71, r 2 box 15, Leesburg, was driving this Ford truck west on CR SOOS, 3Vz miles west of SR 15, when he lost control near a ditch and flipped over. Bishop was hauling 28 nitrogen liquid fertilizer. Two tanks fell from the back of the truck into the Davison Creek. Milford Fire Department was called to pump the one tank out that didn’t rupture. Fertilizer from the second tank leaked mostly on the bank of the creek. The department also washed down the road as gas was leaking from the truck's fuel tank. Bishop was transported by Milford EMS to Kosciusko Community Hospital where he was treated and released. Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputy C.D. On April 22,1933, he married Phyllis Miller, who died in 1950. On January 12, 1957, he married Florence Foster; she survives. A lifetime Syracuse area resident, he owned and operated the former Star Clothing Store, Syracuse, and Milford Shoe and Clothing. Mr. Mabie was also a farmer and a member of Kosciusko County Farm Bureau. Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Sally Brown, Syracuse; one son, Arthur Mabie, Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. Having moved from Detroit to the Milford area five years ago, he was a retired self-employed painter. Mr. Nork was a member of the Catholic church and a veteran of World War 11. His survivors include two nieces, Mrs. John (Kathy) Cox, Leesburg, and Mrs. Dave (Pat) Benning, Milford; and one nephew. There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a m. Market St., North Manchester, formerly of Akron, died at 6:15 a.m. Friday, June 22,1990, in his home. He was in ill health 3M> years. Born February 19,1961, in Clifton Forge, Va., he was the son of Harry D. and Beverly M. Rhoades Shriver. On November 14, 1981, in Logansport, he married Heidi Jo Rife; she survives. A resident of the Manchester area for nine months, he had moved there from St. Paul, Minn., where he was stationed at the Naval Reserve Center. He was a United States Navy petty officer Ist class aboard the USS Roark as an operation specialist. A 1979 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School, he was a member of Akron Church of God. Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother, Beverly Shriver, Akron; his father and stepmother, Harry and Pat Shriver, Syracuse; one sister, Mrs. David (Dena) Canman, Highland Park, Ill.; one brother, Jeff Shriver, Goshen; his maternal grandmother, Onolee Rhoades, Rochester; his paternal grandmother, Esther Shriver, Wabash; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Richard Bunnell officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery. Lundy E. Welborn Lundy E. Welborn, 88, 1114 Bresseau St., Elkhart, died Saturday morning, June 23, 1990, in his home. He was born August 16,1901, in Willow Branch. On March 6,1920, in Jeffersonville, he married Nancy V. Judge, who died August 14,1976. A 1917 graduate of Wilkinson High School, he was captain of' both the football and baseball teams during his senior year. He was a 1924 graduate of Butler University and received a master’s degree from Indiana University in 1945. Mr. Welborn retired in 1966 after teaching and coaching for 46 years. The high schools at which he taught include Wilkinson; Fort Wayne South Side; Goshen, where he was instrumental in starting the Gbshen Relays in 1946; Jefferson Township, where he won the first sectional basketball tournament game in the school’s history; Nappanee, where he began the football program in 1950, and also began the “Quarterback Club;’’ and Niles High School in Michigan. He was a member of the Elkhart, state and national retired teachers associations, Elkhart Gemology Society and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. A 1985 inductee to the Indiana Football Hall of Fame, he received a 20-year pin from the Indiana Coaches Association and was a charter member of the Fort Wayne Officials Association, having officiated both basketball and football. He was also inducted to the Fort Wayne South Athletic Hall of Fame. His survivors include two daughters, Patty Sue Fioritto and . Mrs. Rollie (Ann) Hoover, both of Elkhart; two sons, Stuart Welborn, Tigard, Ore., and Richard Welborn, Syracuse; 11 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Gene Welborn, Vermont, and Keith Welborn, California; and one sister, Vivian Martin, Parma, Ohio.
