Darrel Grisamer of Syracuse received a telephone call at 6:15 p.m. Monday from his daughter, Daralea, telling her father she had arrived safely at Osaka, Japan. Just finishing her freshman year at the Arizona College of the Bible, the 1979 Wawasee High School graduate is being sponsored by the Salem Church of the Brethren. She is in training in Japan preparatory to teaching conversational English during the summer months to Japanese students. Sunday visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Reed, 137 W. and former president, has opened his certified public accountant office in Fort Wayne. 20 YEARS AGO, JUNE 25,1970 Plans are being announced for the 11th annual Police and Firemen’s Fair to be held July 6-11, one block west of SR 13 south of Syracuse in Wawasee Village. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Beck of Syracuse were guests of the son, Charles, and Mrs. Beck at their Lake Wawasee cottage on Father’s Day. Jim and Lxiuis Purvis are announcing the opening of Jim’s Barbecue Pit next week, located just north of the Frog on old SR 13. Charlotte (Mrs. Lyle) Kell is starting her own business in the area, to be called Wawasee Flying Service, of which she will be a flying instructor. Her business is located at Wawasee Airport, near Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Snellenberger have arrived at their summer home south of Syracuse following the winter at Arcadia, Fla. In honor of the birthday of their daughter, Mrs. George Strong, on Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Van Anda entertained at their Lake Wawasee home for a group of friends. A five o’clock potluck dinner was served, followed by plenty of homemade ice cream. 30 YEARS AGO, JUNE 23,1960 Mrs. Ida M. Hibschman will retire from employment at the Syracuse Post Office June 30. Mrs. Hibschman first became a post office employee Aug. 1,1934, when Bert Whitehead was postmaster. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Sharp spent Sunday with her brother, Stanford Diehl. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Claybaugh spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hertenstein of Rushsylvania, Ohio. James O. Lovell of Sun Mount, N. Y., was a guest this week of his
daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harris. This was the first time in 10 years that they had been together. Joining the family was Sgt. James 0. Lovell Jr., who is stationed in Chicago on U.S. Army duty. Mrs. Ed Schleeter is visiting in Cool baby's bottle Last summer, my mother-in-law came up with a great suggestion for keeping my daughter’s bottled formula or juice cooler during hot weather. This tip worked well for me, and I would like to share it with other mothers now that summer weather is just around the corner. Most grocery stores carry reusable ice cubes. They are made of a plastic material and filled with distilled water. Once frozen in the freezer, they can be added to the baby’s bottle to keep the milk or juice cooler. Ray James Skelton, 23, P.O. Box 371A8, Syracuse, was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Corrections for six years on a charge of dealing narcotics. Suzzanne Hanele Hauntz, 23, r 1 box 404, North Webster, was charged with fleeing/eluding a police officer, reckless driving, and financial responsibility law violation. She was held on $250 bond. Jason “Rudy” William Randolph, 18, r 1 box 493, North Webster, was charged with illegal possession and/or consumption of alcohol and held on $175 bond.
