Truck hits guard rail, SI,OOO damage reported
Syracuse Police investigated the following accident during the past week: Police investigated an accident at 2:01 p.m., Monday, on SR 13 north of Boston Street. Juan Gomez, 30, Syracuse, was backing his 1977 Ford pick-up from the alley onto SR 13. He told police his view was blocked by tree limbs that caused him to turn sharp and hit the guard rail of the bridge. There was no damage to the guard rail and up to SI,OOO damage to the truck. Driver Arrested Kenneth H. Hall, 27, Syracuse, was not injured when his 1986 Chevrolet pick-up struck a Northern Indiana Public Service Company pole head-on. The accident occurred Saturday, June 23, at 12:25 a.m. on Medusa Street. He was arrested for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Hall told police he had turned off of SR 13 onto Medusa Street and was heading east when he lost control of his vehicle. The truck slid off the road and struck the pole head-on. Damage to the truck was estimated up to $5,000. Driver Inattention Driver inattention was the cause of an accident on Saturday, June 23, at 11:50 a.m., on the SR

13 access road near Augsburger’s Super Valu. Sherry L. Durflinger, 27, North Webster, was driving a 1984 Chevrolet SlO south on the access road. She told police she stopped for the stop sign, but did not see the 1974 Plymouth Satalite driven by Gregory L. Marchand, 27, Syracuse, turning off of SR 13, before she pulled out and hit Marchand’s vehicle. Jerry Francis, three, Syracuse, a passenger in Marchand’s vehicle suffered minor bleeding to his eye, but Marchand refused medical treatment for child. Damage was estimated under S2OO to Marchand’s vehicle and up to SI,OOO to Durflinger’s vehicle. Hit And Run Police were called to investigate a hit and run accident at Baltimore Street and South Huntington Street, Thursday, June 21, at 7:17 a m. David Warren, Syracuse, notified police at 7:17 a.m., Thursday, June 21, of the hit and run accident. Warren stated he came home from work and discovered someone had run into his 1981 Toyota parked along the street. He stated the accident must have occurred sometime during the night while he was at work. Damage to the truck was
estimated up to SI,OOO. Driver Cited Sharon R. Hepler, 16, Syracuse, was cited for operating a vehicle without financial responsibility following a two-vehicle accident Monday, June 18, at 5:10 p.m., at SR 13 and Lynwood Drive. Sherrie L. Jones, 16, Syracuse, was driving a 1987 Pontiac Fiero, and was pulling onto SR 13 from an unmarked driveway when her vehicle was hit from behind by a 1976 Buick Regal driven by Hepler. Hepler stated she was stopped at Lynwood and SR 13 and looked for oncoming traffic. She noted the lane of traffic was clear so she proceeded to pull out into the lane of travel when the Jones vehicle pulled out in front of her. There was no damage to Hepler’s vehicle and up to $2,500 to Jones’ vehicle. Following Too Close Following too closely was the cause of a three-vehicle accident Monday, June 18, at 4:40 p.m., on the access road at SR 13. David Johnson, 19, Syracuse, told police he was driving a 1980 Chevrolet Citation behind a 1990 Chevrolet Camaro driven' by Julie C. Combs, 19, Cromwell, who was behind a 1983 Pontiac station wagon driven by Douglas D. Mayberry, 44, Syracuse. Combs and Mayberry had slowed their vehicles for the traffic signal, but Johnson did not se the vehicles slowing down in time to avoid hitting the rear of the Combs’ vehicle. Upon impact the Combs’ vehicle hit the rear of the Mayberry vehicle. Cutting down on saturated fats Less than half of Americans are trying to cut down on foods with saturated fats.
