Adventureland is an added plus for North Webster, improvements continue

By JENNIFER WOODWARD Staff Writer Every year Adventureland of North Webster seems to get better and better, thanks to the hard work and dedication of Dan and Pia Thystrup. The Thystrups, owners of Adventureland, have been making constant improvements within the amusement park. The hard work is a year-long endeavor. The summers are spent pleasing customers and maintaining the rides and grounds. During the winters when the park is closed they will work on new projects or mend the old. This year many will see the new changes around Adventureland. The go-cart track is entirely new and is three times longer than before. Also, there are new go-carts. The miniature golf courses have completely been rebuilt. Baseball enthusiasts will discover new batting cages. A new sport has even hit North Webster - Bankshot Basketball. “Bankshot Basketball is a cross between golf and basketball,” explains Dan. It’s a .pure-shooting, non-running, nonexclusionary sport that is played in a course of 19 stations consisting of 28 fiberglass sculptured backboards of unconventional configurations and a multiplicity of goals. All shots must be banked. players progress they will find the shots becoming more and more difficult. The Thystrups spend most all their time with the amusement park, “You must think ‘amusement park’ all the time.” When they’re not working the they will attend amusement park trade shows, visit other amusement parks, or read the various trade papers. The Thystrups are not new to the amusement scene. They are originally from Denmark. Their family back home has its own amusement park and as Dan states, “It’s bigger and better.” The family will come to America in the fall, after Adventureland has closed for the season, and help out with new ideas and maintenance. The Thystrups will then travel back to Denmark for Christmas and spend their vacation with the family during December and January. Then its back to North Webster to prepare for the summer season. Dan explains that the lifestyle never gets boring, “There’s

always something to look forward to. We’re not doing the same thing all year round, day in and day out.” They are happy with the turn around they have seen within the park and the reputation throughout the community. Dan explains, “Vacationers have

always come by, but lately we have a lot of locals.” He feels that the improvements and new attractions have created a worthy reputation. Adventureland has plenty of new ideas and plans for the future, but for now they both agree, “We try to take one thing at a time.”
