Community responds to make festival a success

“The Mermaid Festival is back!,” exclaims Dave Patterson, North Webster Lion member. What began 45 years ago is alive and well in North Webster. The Lions have been meeting since last July to plan this year’s festival. Lion members have attended meetings and conventions to gain new ideas. At a meeting in Indianapolis they discovered

many different shows that can be offered such as the Monster Truck Show on Saturday, June 23, and the Pig Races to be held everyday on the midway. Patterson feels that the community has shown a great effort in response to making the festival a real success this year. This is a real blessing for the North Webster Lions. The Lions Club has sponsored the Mermaid Festival since 1946,

having been chartered in 1945. It was the. first service club in the community. As sponsors of the festival, the club has become well known for the work put into one of Indiana’s largest parades and a host of activities leading up to that event. Plans are already underway for next year’s festival and as Patterson states, “If they think this year is good, wait till they see next year.”
