CAT-Scan installed
The motto of Kosciusko Community Hospital may be “Keeping Care at Heart," but “Keeping Care Close to Home” applies just as well in the case of the hospital’s newest piece of equipment. A Philip’s Tomoscan LX CT Scanner, more commonly known as a “CAT-Scan,” was installed May 14 and will allow patients to have testing with state-of-the-art equipment right here in Warsaw. A CT scanner combines x-ray and computer technology to painlessly get an unobstructed, two-dimensional view of organs and structures not as clearly seen on a one-dimensional x-ray. Although KCH previously had a CT scanner, improved technology makes the new computerized system one of the finest in the state — the only LX in Indiana — and makes KCH the only hospital of its size in the United States with such a model. Larry Stackhouse, administrative director of radiology, says even though this new machine is such a sophisticated model and is now available for 24-hour use at KCH, there has been no increase in the patient cost for a CT scan. KCH began offering 24-hour emergency service for CT imaging three months ago. This is complemented by 24-hour X-ray

THREE INJURED — Troy P. House, 20, r 2 box 539, Alexandria, suffered internal injuries to the abdomen/pelvic area after his 1985 Chevrolet convertible was hit head-on in a two-vehicle accident Saturday, June 9, at 11:02 p.m. The accident was on SR 13, north of CR 800 N near North Webster. Also injured was Laurie D. Kerchenfaut, 28, 2915 N. CR 15OW, Warsaw, driver of the other vehicle, and Mark Linton, 27, 2462 Fawn Ave., Warsaw, a passenger in the Kerchenfaut vehicle. Kerchenfaut suffered minor bleeding to her face and Linton complained of pain to his chest. All three persons were takencto Kosciusko Community Hospital. In a statement given to Kosciusko County Police by Tom W. Pratt, 600 Hiawatha Dr., Syracuse, who was driving behind the Kerchenfaut vehicle, the 1987 Mazda truck drifted across the center line and into the northbound lane of traffic. Pratt stated there was no room for House’s vehicle to avoid the accident. Neither Kerchenfaut, nor her passenger, Linton, remember what happened in the accident. Linton was asleep at the time of the mishap. Investigating officers indicate Kerchenfaut apparently fell asleep causing the vehicle to cross the center line. Upon impact, the truck rolled partially over onto the passenger side in the center of the roadway. Shown in the top photo is House’s vehicle, registered to Tom J. House, a South Dr., Anderson. While in the bottom photo is the Mytda> truck driven by Kerchenfaut and registered to Linton.' Both vehtctoaa were totaled. (Photo by Kosciusko County—Sheriff's Detective Sergeant Tom Kitch.)
