Senior honor program
Wawasee High School formally recognized special achievements of its seniors on Tuesday, May 29, at its annual awards program held in the school’s gymnasium. The program was the last official tribute to the class of 1990 prior to commencement ceremonies which are scheduled for Sunday. June 3. Hosted by Marilynne Curtis, Steve Hunsberger, and Ruthann Angle, the program enabled the school and members of the community to give awards, scholarships, and recognition to seniors in a variety of categories. Departmental awards were given to the following students: Russell Anderson, agriculture; Staci Bricker, art; Nicole Enyeart, business; Travis Caudill, distributive education; Chris Conkling, music; Chad Jones, physical education; Kris Eisenhour, education; Steve McDaniel, industrial technology; Annette Wilson, language arts; Russell Anderson, social studies; Chris Conkling, mathematics; Mike Mattix, science; Rhonda Bailey, foreign language, Spanish; Jason Hollar, foreign language, French; Heidi Lehman, foreign language, German; Stephanie Hobbs, Erica Machan, April Rensberger, Kristi VanDiepenbos, and Kathy Richcreek, cosmetology. Chris Thornton won most valuable speaker honors. Pam Pletcher presented Key Club awards. The Key Clubber of the Year was awarded to Julie Storey and Jenny Prado was recognized for her outstanding and dedicated service. The math contest award was presented to Lydia Bonner. Cindy Bryan gave the Karen Wiggs Drudge Memorial to Earnest Williams. Varsity members of the academic decathlon team given honors were: Lydia Bonner, Scott Berkey, Shawn Kiser, Larry Horwitz, Becky Vint, Jenny Smith, Matt Bucher, and Jeremy Beer. Junior varsity members recognized were: Hope Jarboe

and Max Barker. Problem Solvers Wawasee Future Problem Solvers were also recognized at the ceremony. Those given honors were: Matt Liepold, Tina Horwitz, Jodi Finlinson and Emily Meyers. Americanism Test awards were presented to Andrew Eberly, grade 12; Annette Wilson, grade 12, Chris Thornton, grade 11, and Suzanne Schwartz, grade 11. The American Legion School Award Medal was awarded to Chad Hoffert and Kris Eisenhour. Ron Corson was named American Legion Teacher of the Year. Senior Athletic Scholastic Achievement Awards were presented to Julie Gunn and Chris Conkling. Lisa Mikel and Tom Flees were awarded Junior National Scholar/Athlete Awards. Football Merit Award Scholarships were given to Tim Lilly and Scott Carlin. Caren Northrup was presented with the Wawasee High School Best Os Art Show Award. The Lakeland Art Association Scholarship was given to Shane Rager and Joel Brito. The DAR Award went to Andrew Eberly. The best staffer award as presented by the South Bend Tribune went to Jeremy Beer. The Legend most valuable staff member was Angie Harmon. Annette Wilson won honors from the American Association of University Women. Christina Liberti was recognized by the Altrusa Club of Warsaw. Da-Lite Screen Company gave an award to Audra Bouse. The Ralph Thornburg Family Scholarship went to Annette Wilson. Lisa Neises was given the Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher-Career Scholarship. The Lake Tippecanoe Women's Association Scholarship went to DeAnna Deßolf. The Milford PTO Scholarship was awarded to Evelyn Stricklin. Hoosier Scholars Andrew Eberly and Scott Berkey were named Hoosier Scholars. Dollars for Scholars award winners were: Linda Benning, Kimberlee Carmichael, Teresa Coy, Kris Eisenhour, Janelie Jennings, Shawn Kiser, Christina Liberti, Wendy Mills, Sharon Payne, Tonya Perzanowski, Evelyn Stricklin, Michelle Wagoner, Sara Wilkinson and Krista Zimmerman. Other awards and recipients included: First Federal Savings & Loan Citizenship Award, Annette Wilson; Dana Corporation 1990 Scholarship, Casey Kline; Psi lota Xi Sorority Fine Arts, Teresa West; Rena Ford Memorial Scholarship, Evelyn Stricklin; and Michael Johnson Memorial Scholarship, Teresa Chesnut, Christi Tom, and Teresa West.

Dr. Bruce Lamb presented Andrew Eberly with the Milford Lions Club Scholarship. The Christopher Jordan Memorial Art Scholarship went to Shane Rager. Lisa Neises was awarded the WCEA Teachers Scholarship. Roger Coldren presented the Lakeland Kiwanis International Career Awards to Scott Berkey, Chad Hoffert and Christa Sincroft. The International Palace of Sports Youth Foundation Award was given to Jason Douglas and Lydia Bonner. Christina Liberti and Evelyn Stricklin were given awards by the Wawasee Kiwanis. Other scholarships and their recipients included: Claire Mohler Scholarship, Lisa Neises; Lakeland Eagles Forrest Plank Scholarship, Christina Liberti; Lakeland Eagles Joseph Thornburg Scholarship, Evelyn Stricklin; Syracuse Business and Professional Women Scholarship. Recipients of the Selma McKrill Brown Educational Trust were: Audra Bouse, Teresa Coy, DeAnna Deßolf, Christina Liberti and Christi Tom. Mr. and Miss Warrior awards were presented to Kris Eisenhour and Chris Conkling. Those students commended for their National Merit Recognitions were: Lydia Bonner, Jeremy Beer, Scott Berkey and Andrew Eberly. Also honored at the afternoon's ceremony were all those students receiving scholarships from colleges or entering college honors programs, Indiana State Honors Diploma recipients and Academic Hall of Fame and Presidential Academic Fitness award winners. Those seniors graduating with highest distinction were: Chris Conkling, Annette Wilson, Andrew Eberly, Russell Anderson, and Scott Berkey. Those graduating with distinction were: Christa Sincroft and Teresa Coy. Chris Conkling was recognized as the valedictorian while Annette Wilson was recognized as the salutatorian of the class of 1990.
