FLYING HIGH — Always a popular draw, the swings soar high above the midway at last year’s Mermaid Festival. The 45th Annual Mermaid Festival will be held from Friday, June 22, through Saturday, June 30.

CUTIE PARADE ENTRY — One of the highlights of the North Webster Mermaid Festival, the Cutie Parade has been slated for Wednesday, June 27. This year’s Cutie Pageant will follow the parade and will take place in the North Webster School’s gymnasium.

45th annual Mermaid Festival in North Webster June 22-30

North Webster is the place to be from June 22 through June 30 as the North Webster Lions present the 45th Annual Mermaid Festival. Visitors and residents alike can count on some of the same popular events and activities that have made the festival a real showcase of fun. At the same time, a few changes have been made to this year’s celebration. Because of the sale of Camelot Hall, activities which have normally taken place at this locale have been relocated. For example, the Cutie Contest and the Queen of the Lakes Pageant will both be held in the North Webster School. The festival ball will take place in the Merchants’ Building. Two events to be debuting at this year’s festival are a Monster Truck Show on Saturday evening, June 30, and nightly pig races. The truck show will be held at the Trojan Speedway while pig races will be held on the midway. The schedule of events for the nine-day festival promise something for everyone.

For the sports enthusiast, there will be a girls’ Youth League tournament, boys’ Youth League tournament, 5,000 meter run, softball tourney, basketball tournament, and the 18th annual Tournament of Knights. For the kids there will be rides and games on the midway, a coin hunt, a treasure chest, balloon blowing contest, and much more. And when all of this riding and gaming works up one’s appetite, the festival promises to have a wide variety of foods and beverages to satiate even the pickiest palate. The festival closes on Saturday following the festival parade, deemed “One of Indiana’s Finest,” and the Queen of the Lakes Pageant. The 1989 Queen of the Lakes, Elizabeth Vandelene, will crown the 1990 queen. As in years past, the North Webster Lions 45th Annual Mermaid Festival offers fun for people of all ages.
