KB*. SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES — The old fish hatchery area offers families a wealth of summer opportunities. Located on the shores of Lake Wawasee, there are a number of picnic tables, plenty of parking spaces and playground equipment at the site.

Old fish hatchery area now offers family fishing

Families looking for away to enjoy Lake Wawasee and its many resources this summer might consider making a trip to the old fish hatchery area. As part of a two-phase plan, the old Wawasee Fish Hatchery was converted to a family fishing area in the summer of 1988. At that time, workers filled in the hatchery ponds, completed landscaping, installed public restroom facilities and constructed a boat launching ramp. Opened to the public on August 8, 1988, this new area was called

Wawasee Family Fishing area. Other projects performed by the Department of Natural Resources at this site included the installation of eight picnic tables, a 22-slot parking lot, and the public restrooms. Playground equipment became an added feature of the area soon thereafter. With all of these improvements made to the old fish hatchery area, families are afforded the opportunity to picnic, sightsee, fish and boat on a daily basis.
