Opportunities abound for recreational fishermen
Area fishermen can sink their hooks into a variety of different fish at the area lakes this summer. Largemouth Bass and Bluegill are the most common types of fish around, according to Jed Pearson, District Fisheries Biologist for the Department of Natural Resources. "We’ve got those in about every lake and it’s pretty good fishing,” he said. Crappies are another kind of fish that frequently find their way into the bottom of a

fisherman’s boat. Then there are the types that you can’t find everywhere, like Northern Pike, Walleye and Trout. Pearson says that Muskies are an elusive breed of fish, found in only a few area lakes. Lake Wawasee is a popular site for area gamesmen. With 2,618 acres included within its boundaries, the lake provides room for a lot of fish and a lot of fishermen. (Continued on page 25)
