Unfortunately, the summer children's reading club at the Syracuse Public Library has been cancelled due to construction of the library addition. But, Children’s Librarian Dianna Evans says a "Story Telling" program will be conducted at the Lakeside Park Gazebo on Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. The program begins on June 13 and continues until August 1. Official registration for the program is is May 28 through June 8. Children ages five to twelve may participate in the program where junior volunteers present a story hour. The theme for the program is a “Summer Adventure." June activities include a puppet show, a dinosaur presentation and a pizza toss. July activities include stories and a firecracker craft, a gymnastics demonstration, an origami craft and a presentation on Indian legends and local lore. The grand finale takes place on August 1 when the children will launch balloons. (Photo bv Julie Moore)

Golf courses have something to offer everyone

(Continued from page 22) South Shore offers gas cart rental and has a club house for golfers use after a tough outing. Wawasee Golf Club, located on the north side of Lake Wawasee, is the areas largest club, with 18-holes covering 6,370 yards. Electric carts are available while a clubhouse offers snacks and drinks while the restaurant features a full menu of meals. Maxwelton Golf Course is located one mile east of SR 13 in Syracuse. It features an 18-hole course covering 6,284 yards and is one of the area’s oldest courses. Maxwelton was built in 1927 and has seen several professionals try its enticing greens. Maxwelton also offers drinks and food and has a sport shop with a wide variety of apparel and equipment. .
