Tips for car-travel safety during the summer months
School's out, the summer is here and it’s time for a family get-away. But before you get on the road — whether you’re headed to a tourist attraction just a few hours from home or a vacation spot a few driving days away — make sure to pack the following items, which can be helpful in case of an on-the-road emergency: • Vehicle registration and proof of ownership. • Evidence of vehicle insurance (check expiration date). • Auto club identification and road service phone number.

theast, Syracuse residents may take advantage of the rays at Lakeside Park, located on the southwest shores of Syracuse Lake. A lifeguard will be on duty at the Syracuse location from 10 a m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, beginning Memorial Day weekend. While many may believe that the lifeguard merely keeps watch of swimmers from his extended chair on the beach, a quick trip to the beach will find the valuable workers performing many other jobs. Picking up trash, cleaning the restrooms, periodically checking the water temperature, watching for alcohol brought onto the beaches, preventing horseplay and answering questions are just some of the many duties lifeguards must perform.
