The Columbian Reading Circle met at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 14, in the home of Lewis Yoder, Nappanee, for its spring party. Nancy Wuthrich welcomed the group and prayer was given by Dorothy Haney. National treasurer attends Theta Sigma's meeting
One hundred percent of Theta Sigma’s members were in attendance at the last North Webster chapter meeting of Psi lota Xi on May 8. Many also attended the dinner at the South Shore prior to the meeting. National treasurer of Psi lota Xi, Anita Canandy, was the honored guest in attendance for the chapter’s annual officer elections and the dinner. Luncheon in Wabash
The Wednesday Afternoon Club, Syracuse, recently celebrated the year's end with 18 members and seven guests travelling to Wabash for a spring luncheon in the Honeywell Home. Spring flowers highlighted the two tables, which were set with china, silver and crystal. The club collect, roll call and presentation of guests were given prior to the serving of lunch. Following the meal, the hostess of the Honeywell Home gave a resume of the Honeywell family, and a tour of the home was taken.

Homemakers of the Year are honored on achievement night
By JOAN B. YOUNCE I Extension Agent Home Economist Last week being National Extension Homemaker Week, our local county extension homemakers celebrated with their annual Achievement Night. This event honors the many extension homemaker clubs we have in the county by reflecting on their many achievements of the past year. Many awards are given and entertainment is enjoyed by all who attend. This year, club awards went to the Double H Club for their 25th anniversary and to Warsaw Jr. Extension, the Choral Club and Crossroads for their 50th anniversary. Our most prestigious awards are given to our Homemakers of the Year. This year our young Homemaker of the Year was won by Judy Timmons (Mrs. Rick) from Leesburg. In closing, Anita Canandy urged all chapters to re-evaluate goals annually, and attend the national convention in order to get the whole picture. She congratulated the newly elected officers and reminded them of their responsibilities.

The Kosciusko Retired Teachers viewed a documentary film composed of scenes from the newsreels made by the late Ralph Boice at their recent luncheon meeting in the Shrine Building, Kosciusko County fairgrounds.

Menzie of Pierceton. Her club is Pierceton Home Extension Club. All of these women were honored for their many hours of service and dedication to their respective clubs and for always being willing to help when needed. They are good examples to follow. A cultural arts display was held and attendees voted for their favorites. These winning items will go to Purdue in June for the annual Home and Family Conference. Winning in the quilt division was Catherine Hanes and the general division winner was Helen Wichern for her oil painting, “New England Winter.” Officers for the 1990-91 year were installed. Favors for the guests consisted of tulips made of wood. Lewis Yoder talked to the group about the Amish religion, how they came into existence, their language, and their song books and music. He entertained many questions during his presentation. The group adjourned until fall at which time the president’s party will be held.

SISTERS TO CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARIES — Three Miller sisters and their husbands will celebrate their 40th anniversaries on May 20. Menno and Catherine Hochstetler, left, Nappanee, were married March 16, 1950. They are the parents of six children. In the center are Jake and Sylvia Hostetler of Milford. They were married November 19. 1950, and are the parents of four children. On the right are Henry and Edna Hochstetler of Nappanee. They were married on August 20. 1950. They also have four children. All three couples will be honored with an open house Sunday, May 20, from 2-4:30 p.m. at North Main Street Mennonite Church, i>o4 N. Main, Nappanee. The open house is hosted by the couples' children.
Rural Neighbors meet May 2
Rural Neighbors Club members met May 2 in the home of Kathy Kolbe. Julia Frush read the “Jelly Bean Prayer.” Yvonne Beyers led as pledge to the American Flag was repeated in unison. Doris Slaymaker and Amy Stump reported on attending the English Tea held recently in Warsaw. A donation was made to the 4-H Foundation, and cupcakes were donated to the Mental Health Association at Fort Wayne. Judy Shepherd read minutes of the April meeting. Mary Beth Camden gave the treasurer’s report. A program of colored slides about “Landscaping’’ was presented by Mary Beth Camden and Mrs. Shepherd. Mary Mar-

Snowmobile club has spring banquet Lakeland Snowmobile Club's annual Spring Banquet and last meeting of the season was held April 27 at a local restaurant. Election of officers was held as follows: Dave Biesemeyer, president; Chuck Parr, vice president; Angie Parr, secretary; Mary Fidler, treasurer; board of directors, one year, Jerry Brandon, Bernie Hubartt and Frank Stone. Jeff Corn was elected advisor. Board of director members for two years are Doug Shidler, Dick Mitchell and Calvin Packard. Mrs. Fidler was presented with a charm in appreciation of her many years of service to the Lakeland Snowmobile Club. The group voted to have a booth in the Merchants’ Building at this year’s Mermaid Festival. JUNE WEDDING PLANNED — Loren and Wanda Neibert, 419 E. TO BE HONORED AT OPEN HOUSE — Mr. and Mrs. Randall E. Dewart, Milford, will be honored for their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house on Sunday, June 10, from 2-4 p.m. in the Milford Christian Church. Their children and grandchildren will be hosting the occasion. Mr. Dewart and the former Gwendoline Orn were married May 25, 1940, in the Milford Christian Church by former minister, Darrell Norwood. now deceased. They are the parents of Sharon Keller, Indianapolis; Marcia Pavelec, Oceanside, Calif.; Jon Dewart, Milford; and Mrs. Glen (Susanne) Stroupe of Arden, N.C. There are also 11 grandchildren. In 1982, Mr. Dewart retired after a 38-year sales career in furniture and also in marketing with a major architectural firm. Mrs. Dewart retired also in 1982 as a teacher in Hickory, N.C. She had previously taught in Leesburg and Milford. The couple moved back to Milford in 1983 to care for Mrs. Dewart’s mother, Mary Orn. They are now residing in their new home on r 1 Beer Road, Milford. They welcome former students, friends, and relatives to honor them with their presence.

TO CELEBRATE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY — Allan J. and Eleanor F. Naugler, U.S. 33. Wolf Lake, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, May 19, at a family dinner to be held at an area restaurant. Naugler and the former Eleanor F. Skillins were married May 4, 1940. in Bangor. Maine. They are the parents of three children: Trenna Titus, Syracuse; Richard Naugler. Summerton. S.C.: Stephen Naugler, Syracuse. They have eight grandchildren: Jennifer Titus. Tiffany Titus, Erin Titus, Danielle Naugler. Richard C. Naugler, Melissa Naugler. Gretchen, and Stacy Naugler. Mr. and Mrs. Naugler owned Naugier-Titus Saw mill in Wolf Lake.

Tippy Lee Club to have booth at the county fair
Rosemary Sellers was hostess for the May 2 meeting of Tippy Lee Club. Fredonna Custer was assistant hostess. Janet Kinney read two poems, “A Mother’s Day” and Mother’s Little Helper.” Juanita Miller led group singing. Cheryl Criswell read minutes of the April meeting. MILLERS CELEBRATE 25TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY — Mr. and Mrs. Carl Miller, r 5 box 421, Dewart Lake, Syracuse, observed their 25th wedding anniversary Monday, May 7, with a family celebration. '‘Miller and the former Linda C. Wisler were married May 7, 1965, in Plymouth United Church of Christ, Goshen, with Rev. David Jameson performing the ceremony. Mr. Miller is self-employed in the floor-covering business. Mrs. Cook is employed as a cook in Goshen Middle School. They are the parents of one son. Michael D. Miller, and one daughter. Sheila J. Miller, both of Goshen. They also have one grandson.

The May meeting of the Syracuse Business and Professional Women’s Club was held recently with one guest. Pam Howatt, present. Following the business meeting, there were partial reports from the committees on the annual Style Show, which was held May 3, w’ith complete reports to be given at the June meeting. A thank you from Riley Hospital was read by the Riley Hospital chairman on the recent Easter box the club sent. The scholarship committee will give a final report on the student selection at the June meeting. Library meeting called The library board of the Syracuse-Turkey Creek Township Public Library will have a called meeting at the regular meeting place on May 23 at 5:15 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the furnishings of the library construction project.
