Goshen pitcher handcuffs Lady Warriors

Munson limited the Wawasee batters to just one hit over seven innings of play. Becki Haab recorded the only Lady Warrior hit when she lined a single to right field. Meanwhile, the Goshen offense slapped five singles and capitalized on five errors and seven walks by the
Wawasee defense. The Lady Redskins struck for three runs in the second inning to make it 3-0. They pulled away in the fourth inning with a four-run outburst to make the score 8-0. The loss dropped Wawasee's record to 0-10 in the Northern Lakes Conference and 1-12

overall. Goshen improved its conference mark to 7-3, and 10-4 overall. The Lady Warriors’ offense got untracked against Plymouth on Friday, May 11, but the Lady Pilgrims still came out on top by a 12-5 margin. Wawasee jumped to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the
first inning but Plymouth responded with nine runs over the next three innings. The Lady Warriors pulled to within 9-5 with a three run fourth inning but that was as close as it would get. Jodi Brumbaugh knocked in two runs for Wawasee, while teammate Kristine Gibson scored a couple runs. Brumbaugh, Evelyn Stricklin, Christie Slabaugh, Trisha Mikel and Kerri Speicher all contributed to the Lady Warrior offense with one hit apiece. The Northridge Lady Raiders gave Wawasee a severe 16-0 thumping on Wednesday, May 9, in a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule. Northridge’s sluggers scored 10 runs in the second inning and never looked back. The Lady Warriors will return to action today (Wednesday) with a 4:30 p.m. matchup at Concord. They are scheduled to wrap up their home season on Friday when they host the Whitko Lady Wildcats. In junior varsity action, the Lady Warriors dropped to 2-4 on the season with an 11-10 loss to the Homestead Lady Spartans Friday. Mindy Beatty stroked two doubles for Wawasee, and teammate Fantasi Wagoner chipped in with a couple of singles. Shonda Bushong drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double. Wawasee’s JV squad lost a 20-15 slugfest to the Northridge Lady Raiders on Wednesday, May 9. Beatty and Misti Farr paced the Lady Warriors with two hits apiece. Softball action continues for Wawasee today (Wednesday) with a road game at Concord. Z oj*

Women state championship softball players will be on hand to provide individual instruction on the finer points of pitching, fielding and base running. All major and minor league softball players from the area are invited to attend the camp. Coaches of the area’s summer softball leagues are also encouraged to attend.
