Lady track team knocks off Bremen

WARSAW - Still looking to “put everything together”, according to coach Neal Frantz, the Warriors dropped a hard fought decision to Warsaw Monday to fall to 0-3. 4 While Wawasee jumped on the scoreboard first, scoring a run in the third inning off a solo home run by Erik Stevens, Warsaw answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the fifth for a 4-1 win. Senior Chris Conkling went the distance in a losing cause, giving up seven hits in seven innings of work. Kevin Hackworth got the win for Warsaw by yielding just three hits. The Tigers were helped by three Wawaseeerrors. “It seems that every time we score, the other team will get 'em (runs) back in the bottom of the inning,” Frantz noted. Elkhart Central did just that in a 12-11 Wawasee loss Saturday, answering six first-inning Warrior runs with eight of their own in the bottom half of that stanza. The Blue Blazers scored again in the fourth and fifth and added a pair in the sixth. Wawasee answered in the seventh inning with five runs, just coming short of the victory. Jason Mickley got the loss despite 4':> impressive innings of work. Jon Stoops was the winner for Central. Geoff Coburn and Jason Mickley each picked up three runs batted in the loss. Wawasee started its season with a 7-3 loss at the hands of the Columbia City Eagles last Friday. Conkling was the loser while Brian Lahrman picked up the win. Golfers place Bth at Invite
FORT WAYNE — Wawasee placed eighth among 12 teams competing at the Fort Wayne Northrop Invitational at the Brookwood Golf Course Saturday. Senior Mike Tuttle led the Warriors with an 18-round score of 84. Classmate Randy Cesco was close behind with an 86. David Schmahl carded a 91 while Joel Hadley and Jerry Hutchinson rounded out the scoring with 92 and 95, respectively.
Football players to raise money for their team
Wawasee High School football players are in the process of raising money for their sport by promoting golf. They are selling cost-efficient tickets which entitle golfers to four rounds of golf at Volleyball tournament { An open tournament for mens’, womens’ and coed volleyball teams is being planned for the Milford-Fest, with play scheduled to begin around 8 a m. Saturday, May 26. Proceeds from the event, which is expected to draw as many as 30 teams, will go toward the Milford Elementary and junior high school sports departments. The tournament will be held at Milford School and trophies will be awarded to the winning teams. For more information or to register, call Kay Amsden at 658-9570. Conkling named to All-NLC first team
Wawasee High School senior Chris Conkling was recently named to the 12-player AllNorthern Lakes Conference first team. He averaged 10.8 points and had 30 rebounds in NLC games. Conkling was in some pretty select company on the honorary squad, which was dominated by the Concord Minutemen. Concord's squad was undefeated and ranked No. 1 in Indiana for most of the season before Bedford North Lawrence edged them in the state championship game last month. Lady Warrior Julie Gunn barely beat out teammate Anne Simms to win the high jump with a leap of four feet, 10 inches. Controversy At Northridge The Lady Warriors appeared to have beaten the Northridge Lady Raiders on the track Thursday, April 12. But the final decision on who won or lost will be determined in an office by the Northern Lakes Conference board of directors. Wawasee seemed to have claimed a narrow victory before Northridge coaches asked to have a certain junior varsity runner’s time recorded at the varsity level in 400-meter dash. When a Northridge official granted the request, the Lady Raiders ended up on top in the final score, 60-58. Eisenhour who led the Wawasee attack. She took first in the 300-meter hurdles and recorded a personal best time of 16.1 seconds, en route to winning the 100-meter hurdles. Eisenhour was also on the winning 1.600-meter relay team, along with Lori Gargett, Moni Lange and Amy Logan. The Lady Warriors dominated play in the field events behind the efforts of Tonya Perzanowski, Julie Gunn and Amanda Shoemaker and Lisa Mikel. "Our field events really put us in good position again,” Akers said. “We swept the shot put and discus.” Mikel added to the cause by taking first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.1 and finishing first in the long jump at 15 feet. Coach Akers was pleased with his team's performance in the past week and he's looking forward to tonight's (Wednesday) big NLC showdown at Concord. "We still think our goal to win the conference is very much in sight,” he said. "We look for them to be real strong competition but we re ready.”

Soloist Karen Yoder will play the violin at the concert. Music from Bach. Brahms and Mozart will be performed, while newer songs from Richard .Marx and the New Kids On The Block will also be heard. The high school orchestra will also compete at a Group I Large Ensemble Contest at Concord High School the next afternoon.
