ENTERTAINMENT AT SUPPORT SERVICE BANQUET — The annual Wawasee Community School Corporation Support Service Banquet was held last Thursday evening in Becker Lodge at Camp Mack for over 200 support service personnel and spouses. The evening was an appreciation event for bus drivers, secretaries, cooks, custodians, paraprofessionals and other support service staff. Mel Weaver, a bus driver for the past 25 years, was honored with a retirement plaque, however, was not able to attend. The entertainment for the evening was provided by Act II Associates, Inc., Elkhart, who presented education and motivation with a sense of humor. The wellness show that was presented included humorous sketches, songs, raps and more presented by such characters as opera star Benito Balboni, ultra-wimp Phil Fairchild. Rev. Percival Gideon and The Choose Brothers, as well as Dr. Stash Dubshanofski. Dr. Dubshanofski covers personal responsibility for health, the importance of exercise and diet, how to control stress and especially, the need for humor in daily lives. Milford Lions to purchase sign board
Milford Lions Club members approved the purchase of a lighted sign board Monday evening during their business meeting. The sign board will be used to promote Lions Club messages and events and will also be made available for community use, according to committee chairman Bruce Lamb. Currently under consideration is a charge schedule for businesses and individuals wanting to display messages when the space is available. Non-profit organizations would be given access at no charge, also pending

Milt Moore has been added to the sales staff of Century 21 Beaty Realtors, Syracuse, according to Sandi Beaty, vice president of the company. Moore is currently manager of the Cromwell Lumber Company. He is a life-time resident of the area and lives in the country with his daughter, Heidi. He has 14 horses on his farm. PROJECT PROUD is a United Telephone System-sponsored program designed to help a community successfully renovate its central business district. Sometime between now and Saturday, April 5, the Easter Bunny will secretly hide lots of colored Easter eggs in the Lakeland area for children to find. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1342 of Syracuse is sponsoring an Easter egg hunt on Saturday for children ages three to 10. The Syracuse Wawasee Ministerial Association will be sponsoring a community Good Friday service to be held in the Bullet hole found in wall The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following incidents during the past week: Dan Becker, r 2, box 519, Leesburg, reported to county officers on Wednesday evening, March 28, that upon returning home, his wife found a bullet hole in the wall of the couple's trailer. The bullet traveled through a wall and struck a floor heater. The incident occurred sometime between the hours of noon and 5 p.m. that day. There were no injuries. Bob Carlson, owner of Maxwelton Golf Course, r 1, Syracuse, reported to the county sheriff’s department early Thursday morning, March 22, that someone had pried open a door and entered the club house the previous night. It was noted that several small items were taken and that drawers had been pulled out throughout the building. Area residents booked at jail The following persons were booked in the Kosciusko County Jail recently: Joan Dittemore, 57, 920 Camalot Lane, Cromwell, was sentenced to 10 days in jail for conversion, with no good time credit. Richard Allen Powell, 19, r 1, box 253E, Milford was charged with contributing to the deliquency of a minor. Bond was set at $225.

have returned to Syracuse following a 10-week stay at Susan Lodge resort near Orlando, Fla. Mrs. Ida Hibschman of Syracuse has returned to her home from a weekend visit with the Herman Jensens at Garrett. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Wiles and family of Syracuse entertained Sunday for the family at an Easter dinner and March birthdays. Birthdays celebrated were Mrs. Robert Wiles, Merl Laughlin Sr., Mr. Wiles and son Robbie, and Cindy Keck. Lt. and Mrs. Jerry Kirkdorfer of Chanute AFB at Rantoul, 111., were weekend guests of the former’s parents, the Hubert Kirkdorfers at Syracuse. Mrs. Harry Strieby is expected to return to her Syracuse, r 3, home this week from a winter’s stay at Boynton Beach, Fla. The Nathan Insleys are returning this week to their Syracuse home from Denedin, Fla., where they spent the winter months. 30 YEARS AGO, MAR. 31, 1960 There will be more than a
marina when the Poinsatte brothers complete their plans at the channel location next to the miniature golf course and Turtle Bay Trailer Park. The corner lot, which goes to the Kale Island Road (Road 8) will be equipped with a fireplace and picnic tables so that boaters coming for the day can barbecue their own hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken or steaks while relaxing on land. Ground was broken last week for the Wawasee Bowls, just south of Wawasee Village. The new structure, which will feature twenty lanes and latest facilities for bowlers and guests, is scheduled for completion by 1 August. According to Mary Hoy’s diary this is the first year since 1940 that the ice has stayed on the lakes through March. It was 2 April the year before the lake was free of ice and her notes reveal that a real hot summer followed. Miss Susan.
