ONLY A FEW UNITS — Syracuse is the home of one of a few Pizza Hut Drive-Thru units, even though there are over 6,000 Pizza Hut restaurant world wide. Pizza Hut opened its doors in Syracuse in September 1989 and employs 20 persons. The drive-thru Pizza Hut allows customers to call ahead and pick-up their food without having to get out of the car.

Pizza Hut has patio at Syracuse for outdoor dining

Pizza Hut has joined the progress in Syracuse this year by opening a Drive-Thru and Carry-out restaurant at the northeast corner of SR 13 and Bowser Road. Even though there are over 6,000 Pizza Hut restaurants world-wide, there are only a few drive-thru units. This type of service allows the customer to call ahead and then pick-up their food without having to get out of the car, which is very nice when the winter wind and snow begin in Northern Indiana. The Syracuse drive-thru Pizza Hut is the only one to add a patio with outdoor dining. This is especially appealing in our relaxed environment around the lakes region, notes Don Trammel, district supervisor. Pizza Hut offers the world’s most popular Pan Pizza in addition to the Handtossed and Thin-N-Crispy crusts. In the last year Pizza Hut has developed and marketed a line of "specialty” pizzas such as Meat Lovers, Pepperoni Lovers, and Cheese Lovers in addition to the long-time favorites, Supreme and Super Supreme. Speed, convenience and the great taste of Pizza Hut Pizza is the goal at the restaurant. Pepperoni or Supreme Personal Pan Pizza is ready to serve from 11 a m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday at the speaker/menu board or by coming inside. For large orders or Personal Pan Pizzas other than the daily features, customers are encouraged to call ahead. Customers are also asked to call ahead for dinner size pizzas. Orders are ready when customers arrive at either the carry-out entrance or the drive-thru. Dinner size pizzas are offered from opening to closing and each pizza is made by hand after an order is placed. Dinner size pizzas are available in Pizza Hut’s famous crusts. Thin ’N Crispy is the company’s original crust, rolled extra thin for a crispy bite. Pan Pizza is perfect because the fresh dough is allowed to raise right in the same pan used for baking. The newest crust, Hand

Syracuse Retail Merchants encourage area business

Serving as an affiliate to the Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce, the Syracuse Retail Merchants help expose the opportunities available in Syracuse and encourage businesses in the area. Judy Moser of Creative Touch Studio currently serves as president while Judy Wallace is secretary and Jeanne Gardiner is treasurer. Monthly meetings are held at Creative Touch Studio, SR 13. The meetings are at 8 a.m. the first Friday, after the first Wednesday, of each month. Various activities are sponsored by the merchants throughout the year, with several others given support by the organization. A 1950 s and ’6os dance is next on the merchants’ agenda. Serving as a fundraiser for promotional advertising on the town, the dance will be held Saturday, April

Tossed Traditional is fresh dough gently stretched until its not too thick and not too thin. If an order can’t be phoned in, its no problem. The order can be placed at the drivethru or carry-out entrance and the customer will be notified when the pizza is ready. Syracuse Pizza Hut features an all-day-every-day low price on any two medium pizzas. You can mix or match crusts and toppings. This “Pairs” offer gives the customer substantial savings because of the volume purchase and helps keep the refrigerator stocked with healthy food for snacks or quick meals. The toppings include pepperoni, beef, pork, green olives, mushrooms, green peppers, black olives, anchovies, italian sausage, ham, onions, shrimp and a vegetarian special which is any four vegetable toppings for a three topping price. Or you can have a Super Style topping, which is about half again as many toppings and over half again as much cheese as a regular pizza. Breadsticks with a rich and creamy cheese sauce have recently been added to the menu. Trammel commented several customers have been spotted eating them on the way home with their pizza. “Guess they couldn’t resist the smell of fresh-baked breadsticks.” Pizza Hut opened in Syracuse in September 1989. Due to the phenomenal volume of business the restaurant was remodeled in December 1989 to increase the food preparation area 2‘/z times. The Syracuse restaurant employs 20 people and is managed by Bob Burthay who hails from Kokomo and spent a year in training in Warsaw before moving to Syracuse. Other management personnel are Dwana Hershberger, Sandy Hamman, Kim Anderson and Lisa Solina Ray. Pizza Hut is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a m. until midnight.

7, at the American Legion. The merchants also usher in the arrival of Santa Claus, sponsor a float for the Wawasee Flotilla, sponsor a winter dance, and co-sponsor such events as the Winter Carnival, Halloween activities, and Syracuse Road Race. “We also try to work with the (Wawasee High School) Key Club, keeping students busy, while we work with the Jaycees and various other organizations,” said Moser. Hoping to build a higher advertising base, the merchants encourage all retailers to attend their meetings. “We need to get more active members and get some fresh ideas,” Moser said, noting that the merchants have discussed using the Syracuse Town Hall as an alternate meeting site to encourage more participation.
