Patona Bay — Everything for boating pleasure

Patona Bay, conveniently located on the west shore of Lake Tippecanoe, continues to meet the needs of area boaters. The local marina began in 1928 as a campground, and has blossomed into one of the largest and most efficient marinas in northern Indiana. It was George Paton I who started the

legacy of Patona Bay in 1904. He sold canoes, sailboats, fishing boats and Evinrude outboard motors prior to moving to Patona Bay’s present location?,. In 1945, George Paton II helped intensify the boating industry in the area by building the first boathouse. The project symbolized

the future for Patona Bay — growth. Now, three generations later, George Paton 111 handles the daily operations of the Lake Tippecanoe marina. In the last couple of years, Patona Bay has undertaken a project to include a “museum” of old pictures from the beginning of Patona Bay. A complete section is devoted to the historical information inside the showroom. “People seem to really enjoy looking at the pictures and seeing the past again,” said Paton. “This is just another service for our customers. I think they really enjoy looking and remembering.” Paton’s second project deals with Patona Bay’s private, yet free beach and picnic facility. It is the only beach area and picnic facility around Lake Tippecanoe. In fact, it could be the only beach/picnic facility linked to a marina in northern Indiana. “Not many marinas have this opportunity,” added B#tbn. “We offer the service to our customers.”

Paton has, this year, increased his boating accessories department to one of the area’s finest. He now offers a full line of clothing, jackets, skis, knee boards, wet suits, and inflatable water toys. Patona Bay’s storage facility increased when Paton went to a shrink-wrap-type covering. The new style of covering allowed more boats to be stored outside without any damage. Service has always been a main thrust at Patona Bay; now it’s more intensified. Taking care of boats and their customers is what makes Patona Bay successful. The local marina, although one of the largest in the area, has not forgotten how it developed. Taking care of business — the customer — is Patona Bay’s trademark. Six full-time employees during winter months allow Patona Bay to remain afloat. Summer staffing doubles in size. When thinking of a marina that is interested in safety, people and recreation, Patona Bay is the answer.
