Tucker Lawn Service takes care of all lawn care needs

If a business’ best measure of success is its customers, Tucker Lawn Care can boast of a prosperous tenure. In the business for five years, Milford native Steve Tucker intended his start as a part-time business. However, his clientele grew so quickly that the business was a fulltime venture in the span of a several months. “A lot of my customers have been with me for the full five years, while we’ve gained many others along the way,” he said. Offering full lawn care, including mowing, leaf and brush cleanup, hedge trimming, seeding, fertilizing and general landscape maintenance, Tucker oversees the operation while his fiancee, Valerie Kreider, does the bookkeeping. “We also maintain people’s lawns while they’re on vacation,” Tucker says, noting that seasonal employees help with spring, summer and fall jobs? The winter allows Tucker time for his collision repair shop. “I do collision work and some painting of cars,” he says, enlisting 15 years of experience, including vocational trade school training. Collision and insurance estimates are available year round. Tucker also provides snow removal, offer-

Visitors' brochure available from the North Webster C of C

Jeanne Thomas, president of the North Webster Chamber of Commerce, reports that donations in 1988 went to the International Palace of Sports Cutie and Queen of Lakes contest, and SI,OOO went to the Police Department for scuba diving equipment. In 1989, SI,OOO was given to the Town of North Webster Park Board for the new pavilion, which was finished last summer. The pavilion will provide a place for picnics, reunions, bands, and the Mermaid Festival groups that perform each summer. Yearly donations are given to the town for Christmas lights, decorations and maintenance, and the Chamber is in charge of Santa’s visit in December and takes the pictures of the children with him. Another yearly project is doing the seating and providing an ice-water stand for the Mermaid Festival. A visitors’ brochure on the Town of North Webster has been printed and is now available at any of the businesses in town who are chamber members. The brochure opens up to a map of the town and lakes showing the many points of interest in the lakes area, highlighting some, such as the Mermaid Festival, the swimming beach, and the Dixie Boat. Interiors by Design can give a total decorating package

There has been some misconceptions about how expensive it is to work with an interior designer. JoAnn Pasko, owner of Interiors by Design, Syracuse, says “the fact is, most people have expensive taste. But in general, by working with a designer, the designer does the work for you. It is somewhat of a shop-at-home type of service. “No more running from store to store to shop for all your decorating needs. Also, by working with a designer, you can achieve a more ’custom’ look to your surroundings. ’ ’ In the studio, Pasko has over 700 fabric books and 300 wallpaper books. If someone is looking for something in particular, she has access to the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. “I have basically become a wallpaper, carpet and window treatment store,” she noted pointing out she does have access to furniture and accents. Pasko, who works by appointment, will

ing year-round property maintenance contracts, while equipment is continually maintained and updated. Nevertheless, the warm weather months remain the busiest, with commercial and residential projects requiring Tucker to spend much of his time on the road. “My receptionist consists mainly of a telephone recording machine,” he says. Encouraging customers to call him at any time, all messages are answered. “I want to be as accessible as possible to my customers,” he says, noting that he also intends to carry a pager. Serving the Milford, Syracuse, New Paris, Warsaw, Leesburg and Tippecanoe Lake areas, Tucker is equipped for virtually any lawn care need. “We do everything from storm cleanup to new lawn installation,” he said. However, Tucker was quick to add, “We try to diversify, but we don’t want to get to the point where we’re trying to do too much. We want to keep that personal touch.” Future plans call for a new shop and office in the Milford area. Quality service will always remain as the mo§t important aspect of the Tucker business.

poster map is being drawn up for future reference. With all the lakes and beauty surrounding the Town of North Webster, the area is a definite summer tourist attraction. On February 26, the chamber’s annual banquet was held at the American Legion where an overview of the year was given. The North Webster/Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce 1990 “Person of the Year” award was presented to Sue Mitchell, who is presently Tippecanoe Township assessor and precinct chairman. Mitchell’s contributions to the community include authoring a book covering the assessing of personal property and serving as an EMT for almost 10 years. She and her husband. Richard Mitchell, were instrumental in establishing the EMS lane numbering system for Webster and Tippecanoe Lakes, and the Barbee Chain. Current officers of the chamber of commerce are: Jeanne Thomas, president; Kay Andrews, vice president. Deb Singery, secretary; and Jodie Pensinger, treasurer. Board members are Bart Culver, Alice Rinker, Jack Maule, John Cripe, Bill Hackleman. and Ralph Luce. Nadine Cormican is on the board as past president

visit persons in their homes, take notes and measurements of the rooms to be decorated and return to her studio. There she will put together a total decorating package. This package includes everything from floor plans to carpeting, wallcoverings, custom window treatments, furniture and accents. At Interiors by Design, an appointment means an appointment with an experienced interior decorator. Pasko lived in Chicago for four years where interior design was her vocation. She then moved to Syracuse and worked at a furniture store in a nearby town. A few years ago she purchased “The Designers Touch,” a private design shop in Warsaw. Pasko changed the name and moved the studio into her home in Syracuse. On January 1,1987, she moved her business into its present location at 101 E. Main Street, Syracuse. > « • >-■' < >,
