Lakeland area — Progress is key

Progress is key to the development of any community. In the Lakeland area, progress is definitely being made on a number of fronts. It all adds up to a thriving community. Education is of paramount interest to anyone who wants to keep their community alive. The Wawasee School Corporation enjoys the dedication of good teachers and administrators, as well as the support of parents and area residents. Academics are the major focus and of course, athletics provide both health benefits for students and interest for the community. However, the school corporation goes beyond providing traditional resources. Sponsoring new programs such as DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) as well as helping students to participate in a number of charitable projects helps make the Wawasee School Corporation a major community resource. Volunteerism and fund raising for worthy projects are not just confined to area school children. In fact, overall, Lakeland communities did a super job during the 1989 United Way campaign and also work for the community through a number of service clubs and church organizations. Progress is also in evidence by the amount of new construction and the number of new businesses in the Lakeland area. Drawn by the friendly people and spectacular lakes, new residents and corporations are lining up to become a part of the community. Friendly people, a thriving economy, community spirit and a strong educational system have brought the Lakeland area far. The progress shows every sign of continuing.

Love Furniture, Appliances, Carpet & Bedding, located at 116 S. Huntington St. in uptown Syracuse, is a complete home furnishings store. The family-owned business carries a full line of name brand furniture., appliances, and carpeting, including: La-Z-Boy recliners; Sealy and Springwall bedding; Armstrong flooring; Cabin Crafts Carpeting; Maytag washers, dryers, ranges, dishwashers and refrigerators; Norwalk sofas, chairs and sleepers; Gibson microwave ovens; and Gibson refrigerators and freezers. Love Furniture carries all styles: Contemporary, Early American, and Traditional. Man-made materials are continuing to be the most popular carpet and upholstery products. The furniture store has a special order room in its three-story structure with large fabric samples for customers who are looking for a special one-of-a-kind design. The store was founded in 1965 and is owned by Gerald and Dina Hubartt, their son, Rich, and his wife, Lisa. They believe good service and a good reputation have been the most important aspects of the business. “We carry only name brand, high quality merchandise. Financing is available. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; 9a.m. to 12 noon on Thursdays; and 9 a m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

In the top photo is Eric Kaiser, who enjoys being cared for at the Lakeland Loving Child Care Center in Milford. The center, like others in the area, fills the day care needs of many Lakeland families. Andy Wysong, who is involved in sales at the Wawasee Boat Company, is in the middle photo. The Wawasee Boat Company, Syracuse, offers a huge variety of boats and boating merchandise. In the bottom photo are North Webster Volunteer Firemen Captain Bruce Leslie, left, and Lieutenant Joe Schaefer. Like many community services, fire companies and emergency medical services are vital to the Lakeland area.
