March 5-10 is 'Health Watch Week'
Recent studies indicate that individuals may be their best defense against cancer. Experts now estimate that 75 percent of all cancer deaths may be caused or promoted by lifestyle. and Medicine Shoppe pharmacies’ “Health Watch Week,” March 5-10, can help people put this formula to work. “Health Watch Week” features the ninth annual color-rectal cancer screening. This free, takehome test detects any hidden blood in the stool — an early sign of colon-rectal cancer. Once completed, the kit is sent to AMC Cancer Research Center for a free lab analysis. All participants are notified by mail of their results and those with a potential problem will be encouraged to consult a physician. Anyone over age 50 or with a family history of colon-rectal cancer is at higher risk and should screen for the condition annually. Detected at an early localized stage, the five-year survival rate is 90 percent for colon and 80 percent for rectal. Cancer prevention is just as important as detection. The free Health Watch Healthy Eating
Guide and Health Check Guide teaches participants how to take an active role in lowering their risk of cancer through diet and annual screenings. Attend “Health Watch Week”
