A carry-in supper highlighted North Webster Lady Lions guest night meeting held Feb. 15 at North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Community building. Jane Lesota and Mabie Shawver were special guests. It was noted that new officers will be nominated at the March meeting. A video about breast cancer was shown by Marilyn Thrasher. Mrs. Shawver asked for monetary support for North Webster Senior Citizen’s Nutrition Site meals. Discussion was held concerning the North Webster Mermaid Festival Cutie Contest, and committees were formed. Valerie Patterson is general chairman for the Cutie Contest.

Mrs. Watson introduced Mary Copeland, a representative from the Kosciusko Jail Museum Society. She asked the group for help in presenting a quilt show at the jail from May 18-20. Following a group discussion, club members agreed to assist with the show. Mrs. Watson, Ruth Dunker and Wahneta Gebhart were appointed to check out available space for the show at the jail. A report was given of the “Quilt America” show to be held at the Indianapolis Convention Center from May 31-June 3. Mrs. Watson gave two readings, “The Road to Fitness,” and ”80’s by Numbers.” Secret pal gifts and valentine gifts were exchanged. A noon luncheon of seven-layer salad and lemon-pineapple cake „ dessert was served by Beverly Maresh and Kathleen Naegeley. Mrs. Sowers showed a quilted vest with an Indiana Rose logo on the back and Seminole strips and two four-pointed stars on the front. Patty Herron displayed a
Magic Pillow, and Mrs. Gebhart showed a Rose of Sharon pillow top. A large bag of men’s neckties was donated to the group by Marjorie Fowler. They will be used to make a quilt top. Wilma Plotner showed eight-pointed stars made from striped fabric. A completed Ocean Wave pattern quilt top, dating from the 19305, was displayed by Wanetta Jones, Club members helped Mrs. Jones complete the Ocean Wave top. She also showed two Cathedral Window pattern wall hangings made from the undamaged portions of an old quilt and a box of unfinished Double Wedding Ring quilt blocks from the 19305. Rita Slankard was wearing a sweat shirt with counted cross stitch design on the front. She displayed a blue heirloom afghan she made 15 years ago, and stars made from striped fabric. Mrs. Watson showed five bunnies, a table pad made from folded fabric and a quilted Bible cover carrier. Time was spent assisting Norma Roose with the placement of Backwater Friends elect new officers Edith Hoffert was hostess for the Feb. 15 meeting of Backwater Friends Club. Wanda Moser, assistant hostess, read an article, “Born Before 1940,” and a poem entitled “Special Friend.” The lesson, “Widowed — Living Alone After Death,” was presented by Dorothy Snoke. New officers were elected as follows: Elizabeth Leach, president; Marlene Charlton, vice president; Lois Lundy, secretary; arid Mary Davey, treasurer. Roll call response was “One of your favorite people.” Mrs. Lundy led group singing of “I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover.” A white elephant auction was held with Carol Rhodes as auctioneer. Mrs. Leach was presented with the door prize. Gloria Miller stressed the importance of checking the expiration dates on food packages. Mrs. Snoke read an article about Alaska. Esther Rider gave the citizenship report and Mrs. Hoffert gave the gardening lesson. The hostesses served refreshments of ham salad and chicken salad sandwiches, cheese spread, crackers and valentine cookies. 10 YEARS AGO, FEB. 20,1980 Rev. Brice Case, North Webster Church of God, has returned home after spending two weeks in Argentina and Paraguay. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Badskey have just returned from a visit to Terre Haute where their son, Steve, is attending college. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Mason were hosts for a covered dish supper held at their home on Feb. 16. Jill Sliger will present a piano recital on Feb. 28 in the auditorium at Wawasee High School. There is no admission charge and the public is welcome to attend. 20 YEARS AGO, FEB. 18,1970 Rev. and Mrs. Robert Mundy and family were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kiser and daughters Thursday evening. North Webster Lions Club president, Paul Carson, reports the newly appointed Mermaid Festival chairman to be Elson Wilson. This, the 25th annual festival, will be held June 22 through the 27th. LOCAL COMPANY PRESENTATION — The February 12 program for Lakeland Kiwanis of North Webster was presented by John Replogle, Chore-Time/Brock of Milford, on the right. Program chairman Arnie Karr is shown at the left. Repiogle, a past president and active Kiwanian from Milford, presented a look into another local company whose products are world-wide. CTB employs 600, mostly residents of this county, with a second plant in Decatur, Ala. In the poultry and livestock equipment business for 37 years, the company designs and manufactures feeding, watering and ventilation systems for poultry, swine and cattle.
