Former Postmaster Ronald Sisk has many friends in Leesburg
After 33 years of government service, Leesburg Postmaster Richard Sisk handed over the keys to the Leesburg Post Office to a new temporary postmaster. A Warsaw resident, Richard retired from government service on Friday, Jan. 26.
Profile
Richard’s time devoted to government service was divided between the Army and the postal service. He started with the Army as he joined three years after having graduated from Warsaw High School. Following his service in. the armed forces, Richard returned to Warsaw where he began his tenure in the postal service. Richard says there really is no single factor that influenced his decision to work for the post office. “In our family," Richard explains, “there is an aunt who is a postmaster, an uncle who is a city carrier and a daughter-in-law's uncle who is a postmaster,” But he adds that none of them have anything to do with the

fact that he chose the postal service. It is just coincidence. In November of 1974 Richard came to the Leesburg Post Office. He speaks fondly of the Leesburg community and says he has made a lot of good friends during the 15 plus years spent there. “It’s a great community — where everyone helps everyone else,” he smiles. Feeling that he had “been here long enough,” Richard made his decision to retire. Although he says his decision was not particularly difficult to make, he admits that there are certain aspects of the job he will greatly miss. “I’ll miss the people I see every day,” Richard comments. “I’ll miss getting up in the morning for work,” Richard says, laughing, “my wife says my job now is to get her up and off to work in the morning.” Looking forward to being able to relax, Richard is ready and has made plans for his retirement. Ice fishing, bowling and golfing are just a few activities on Richard’s agenda. The topper though, is making time to spend with his family — namely his new granddaughter. Os the first grandchild, Richard explains “someone has to spoil her.” January 26 was Richard’s last day at the post office. Signing the keys over to a new temporary postmaster, Richard says his duties are now officially over. 1
