Winter weather blamed by drivers as accident cause

Kosciusko County Police investigated the following accidents during the past week: Two persons were injured in an accident Tuesday, Dec. 26 ( at 9:15 a.m., at SR 13 and Rolling Ridge Drive. Floyd L. Watrous. 77, r 1 box 165, Pierceton, complained of pain to his head and Susan E. Wood. 29, r 3 box 130, Warsaw, complained of pain to her back. Both were taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital. Police report Watrous was traveling south on SR 13 in his 1985 Buick and according to Allen M. Ramsey. 3151 E. Center St.. Warsaw, a witness, his vehicle skidded across the center line, making a complete circle and ending up in the northbound lane where it collided with a 1988 Oldsmobile driven by Wood Damage to Watrous' vehicle was up to $2,500 and up to $5,000 to Wood's vehicle. Hits Guardrail No one was injured in a onevehicle accident Tuesday. Dec 26. at 11:25 am., on SR 13, south of CR 300 N. Marge Lowe, 65. r 1. Leesburg, was driving her 1990 Oldsmobile on SR 13 when she lost control of the vehicle on the ice hitting a guardrail. The vehicle came to rest on top of the guardrail. Damage was estimated up to St.OOStts.the vehjcle Blazer Flips Timothy Stephens, 23. r 1 box 203A, North Webster, was not injured when his 1978 Chevrolet Blazer went off the road and flipped over. The accident occurred at 12:47 p.m.. Tuesday. Dec. 26. on CR 500 N. west of CR 750E Stephens told police the Blazer got off in the snow drift causing him to loose control. Damage was estimated up to $2,500. Failure To Yield Jon M. Mock, 19. P.O. Box 393. Cromwell, was cited for failure to yield at a through highway following a two-vehicle accident Saturday. As he started to make a turk. a vehicle in front of him started to stop. He stated ne naa just plowed uit 1050 N and turned south on CR 1000E. He stopped and was going to backup to plow the intersection. He said he didn't see a 1988 Chevrolet truck which was driven by Kevin P McClurg. 36, 19035 Hand Road.. Huntertown, starting to make a turn behind him As Meeks was backing up he said he felt his truck jump a little and thought it had jumped out of gear, he looked down and saw the truck was still in gear so he started bucking again, not seeing the McClurg truck until he had backed past it. McClurg stated he had been following the highway truck and

thought the driver saw him and was waiting for him to pass. As he started to make the turn, the highway truck started to back up He blew his horn but the truck continued backing up Damage to McClurg’s truck was listed at up to $5,000 with the highway truck Receiving up to SI,OOO. ’ Unsafe Speed Unsafe speed was listed as the cause of a two-vehicle accident on Thursday. Dec. 21 at 4 p.m. at CR 135QN and CR 600 W. southeast of Nappanee. John A. Cannon. 25, 213 W Portland St.. Syracuse, was traveling east on CR 1350 N behind a 1977 Ford which was driven by Wayne D. Weaver, 20, r 1 box 89A. CR 1350 N, Nappanee He stated that the tail lights on j. Weaver's vehicle were covered with snow and he didn't see his left turn signal or brake light come on. When .he realized Weaver was slowing down to turn Cannon hit his brakes causing his vehicle to slid on icy roads and hit the Weaver auto in the rear. Weaver stated he had his left turn signal on and was attemp ting to turn onto CR 600 W. Changes for Energy Assistance Program

With the approval of sl3 million of additional funds to augment the Energy Assistance Program, certain changes have come about The income guidelines remain the same, but the eligibility factors have changed to allow a broader interpretation of who is and is not entitled to assistance. The program is designed to assist eligible persons to pay their heat and electric bills during the cold winter season. Persons 62 years of age and over who rent are eligible to receive this assistance even though their heat and electric is paid as part of the rental fee.

Housing task force moves forward

Combined Community Services Director Joan Cusick and new Housing Task Force member Mike Dilling will be developing a Habitat for Humanity type of program for Kosciusko County. The action took place at a December

Plain Twp. reassessment should be completed by January 1 st

I By KATE WOLFORD Staff Writer Plain Township Trustee/Assessor Don Boggs predicts that reassessment in his area will soon be completed — probably by the first of the year. Plain Township is the only township in Kosciusko County that does not have its reassessment figures finished. Boggs said, as of December 22, "We’re practically done right now.” He adds that it’s mostly problem reassessment work that
