M LILLIE M. PR AUER s Lillie M. Auer Lillie M. Auer, 93, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday. Dec. 16, 1989, in Lakeland Loving Care Center, Milford, where she resided. Born February 6, 1896, in Switzerland County, she was the daughter of John S. and Oniska Konkle Roberts. On September 6, 1913, she married George E. Auer, who died in 1983. A lifetime area resident, Mrs. Auer was a homemaker. She was a member of Milford Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, War Mothers and Waubee Grange, Milford. Her survivors include two daughters, Betty J. Scott, Syracuse, and Mrs. Tom (Marietta) Pulley, Marion; three sons. Ted Auer and George Auer, Jr., both of Syracuse, and Robert Auer. Milford; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Viola Balyeat, Elkhart; and one brother, Ernie Roberts. Sidney. North Webster UNDERGOESTHIRD SURGERY ON FINGER Terry Musselman, r 1, Milford, was admitted to Kosciusko Community Hospital on Monday, Dec. 18. where he underwent surgery for the third time on the little finger of his right hand The finger was severely injured at work several weeks ago. He is expected to be released from the hospital later this week. CHARLTON RECOVERING FROM RECENT SURGERY William F. Charlton, r 1 box 225, North Webster, underwent gall bladder surgery on Tuesday, Dec 12. in Goshen Hospital.

Habegger, 72, 726 Rye Ave., Port Charlotte, Fla., died unexpectedly at 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14,1989, in his home. Born August 10, 1917, in Berne, he was the son of Levi and Caroline Habegger. On July 21, 1946. in Martinsville, he married Annabelle Henline Alexander; she survives. A Pierceton area resident most of his life, he was a retired truck driver for Transport Motor Express. Fort Wayne. He was a member of Pierceton Presbyterian Church, Pierceton Masonic Lodge and the Elks. Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Judy) Mazelin. Berne; two sons. Edd C. Habegger, Warsaw, and Michael L. Habegger. Syracuse; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Doug (Diane) Pifer. Warsaw; one stepson. George O. Alexander. Warsaw; 17 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; and one brother. Herman Habegger, Sun City Center, Fla. He was preceded in death by one son. one brother and one sister. He was released from the hospital Saturday, Dec. 16, and is now recuperating in his home. RECOVERING FROM ANKLE INJURY Mrs. John (Betty) Yoder, 2409 Kirby Dr.. Elkhart. Ind. 46516, daughter of Harvey and Freda Hollar, r 2, Milford, is presently recuperating from a broken ankle she sustained in a recent fall. The mishap occurred when Mrs. Yoder fell from some bleachers while attending a swim meet in Indianapolis in which her granddaughter was a participant. Mrs. Yoder underwent surgery in an Indianapolis hospital and is reportedly getting along much better at this time. SYRACUSE WOMAN TO UNDERGO SURGERY Martha Hepler, r 1 box 2A. Syracuse, was admitted today to St. Joseph Medical Center. South Bend, where she will be undergoing bypass surgery on Thursday, Dec. 21. Mrs. Hepler expects to be hospitalized for a week. Births INNES, David George Craig and Juanita Innes, P.O. Box 771, Milford, are the parents of a son, David George, born at 8:32p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17,1989. in Goshen Hospital. He weighed five pounds, 10 ounces, and measured 19 inches in length. David George is the couple's first child. Maternal grandparents are Robert and Cynthia Pirie, Canton. Mich. Paternal grandparents are John and Faye Innes, Mio. Mich. Maternal great*grandparents are Leo and Jacqueline Bradbury, Detroit, Mich. Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte, with burial following in Rest Lawn Cemetery, Port Charlotte. Sylvester Horstman Sylvester O. Horstman, 86. of Fort Wayne and Lake Wawasee died at 10:23 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 1989. in St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne, following an extended illness. Born July 2, 1903, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Joseph and Julia Stephens Horstman; she survives. A lifetime Fort Wayne area resident and a summer resident of Lake Wawasee, he was employed as a general contractor for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ligonier, and Elks EPOE 155, Fort Wayne. Surviving in addition to his wife are two brothers, Julian C. Horstman and Gilbert G. Horstman, both of Fort Wayne; and one sister, Rita Minnick, also of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard C., in 1964. Funeral services were held at 10 a m. Lana Boyer, 93, r 4 box 39, Syracuse, was taken to Goshen Hospital when the EMS was called to her home at 1:10 p.m., Monday. Police continuing investigations Police continue to investigate robberies in the Lakeland area where thieves or a thief break into businesses and steal money. On Tuesday evening, Dec. 12, unknown persons broke into Serenade Foods, Milford, and took a dollar bill changer. It is unknown how much money was in the machine. James Stork, r 1 box 118A, Milford, notified police on Sunday, Dec. 17, that someone had hit his parked 1987 Chevrolet pick up truck. Police believe that someone was traveling, in a vehicle, on the Camp Mack Road to fast for the curve and slid into Stork’s truck. The truck was pushed into Stork’s parked 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity. The total damage to both vehicles was estimated up to S9OO. Police were called to the parking lot of Heaters, North Webster, when Brent Rose, r 2 box 191, North Webster, found that someone had spray painted his 1984 Camero with yellow and red paint while it was parked in the parking lot. The incident occurred between 10 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, and 7 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 17. Two booked at county jail The following persons were booked in the Kosciusko County Jail recently: Lee Ann Davies. 31, r 1 box 1998. Leesburg, was charged with driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and held on $350 bond. Michael James Coy, 35, 129 E. Shore Dr., Syracuse, was booked on charged of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and held on $350 bond. Sunday, Dec. 17, 1989, in Ligonier as the results of a shooting accident. Born January 19, 1953, in LaGrange, he was employed in the wholesale and retail business in Ligonier. He was a United States Army veteran. His survivors include one son. Robert Byrd, Syracuse; one daughter, Heather Byrd, Muncie; his parents, David and Gertie Mehl, Ligonier; four brothers, Ronald Morris, West Germany, Kenneth Morris and John Copas, both of Ligonier, and Phillip Morris, Allegan, Mich.; and one sister, Jean Peterman. Lena Bowling Lena Bowling, 100, r 3, Ligonier, died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 1989, in Heritage Manor Healthcare Center; Ligonier. She was born November 13, 1889, in Frenchburg, Ky. On December 31, 1907, in Frenchburg, she was married to William F. Bowling, who died in 1961. Having moved to Ligonier in 1914 from Middletown. Ohio, she was employed with the former Sphinx Hotel at Wawasee and with the George and Grace Kidd family, Ligonier. Her survivors include two sons. Charles Bowling. Fort Wayne, and Paul Bowling. Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Sally Phillips, Milford, and Pauline Watkins, St. Petersburg. Fla.; and 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, one brother and one half sister. FIRE DESTROYS VAN — A 1980 Chevrolet van. owned by Paul Markley. Syracuse, was destroyed by fire on Friday, Dec. 15, at approximately 9 a.m., at his home on ( hicago Street. Markley told authorities he had gone out to start the van and had a hard time starting it. He attempted to start the engine longer than usual and while doing so. he saw flames coming from under the dash. Markley attempted to extinguish the flames but could not do so and notified the Syracuse Fire Department. Shown in the photo are members of the Syracuse Fire Department extinguishing the blaze that completely destroyed the vehicle. The cause and dollar amount of damage was not available. Lucille M. Stewart Lucille M. Stewart, 77,69621 CR 17. New Paris, died unexpectedly at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1989, in Goshen Hospital. Born November 11. 1912. in Bremen, she was the daughter of Elza and Mary Katherine Danner Mattern. On August 5. 1927, she was married to Elmer G-. Stewart, who died September 18. 1974.
Investigate theft at Curtis TV, attempted theft at Big Wheel
Syracuse Police are investigating a theft and attempted theft at two local businesses over the past week. Thieves broke into Curtis TV and Appliance late Friday evening early Saturday morning. Police were notified Saturday morning that someone had attempted to enter the front door and being unable to do so, broke out a window. It is unknown what thieves took. Early Wednesday morning police responded to an alarm at Big Wheel when the alarm center notified officials at 1:57 a m. A thorough check inside the building found no one inside. At 2:30 am., police were notified by a store official that someone was on the roof. Al] police officers in Syracuse _ were notified and made a search of the area west and north of the store, “Jimmy” was called from the Warsaw K-9 unit to also assisted in the search. GGH offers terminology class
Goshen General Hospital will be sponsoring medical terminology classes beginning on Jan. 8.1990. The classes will meet every Monday and Thursday. 6:30-Bp.m . through Feb. 15. The purpose of this course is to provide the participant with basic principles of medical word building. These principles, once learned, can be readily applied to building an extensive medical vocabulary. Upon -succ«-s'sTul completion of the course, a certificate will be awarded to the participant. Each individual is expected to attend all sessions.

Dec. 18. at 3 p.m., that someone in a blue van pulled into a parking space and then backed out hitting a row of mailboxes. Five mailboxes and a board holding the mailboxes were damaged. Randy Niles, Syracuse, notified police at 9:50 a.m.. Monday. Dec. 18. that someone had broken into his garage and took several socket sets. Accidents Adam Thwaits, nine. Syracuse, suffered contusions and bruises to his lower leg and a mild concussion after being hit by a car Friday, Dec. 15. at 4:32 p.m., on SR 13, north of Benton Street. Thomas C. Ward, 19. Wawaka. told police he was driving his 1984 Pontiac Firebird south on SR 13 and saw Thwaits standing on the west side of the road. The next thing Ward saw was the boy run out in front of his vehicle and he

Thwaits was thrown from being hit into the northbound lane in front of Lydy's vehicle. Thwaits was taken to Goshen Hospital and later released. Driver inattention caused two accidents on Thursday. Dec. 14. The first accident was at SR 13 and Medusa Street at 12:45 p m Mary A. Stevens. 71. North Webster, was driving her 1983 Dodge Aries south on SR 13 and as she came up to the railroad crossing on SR 13 the crossing arms started coming down almost on her vehicle She told police she backed up and did not realize a 1984 Toyota, driven by James C. Cox, 31. Gaston, was behind her. Stevens' vehicle backed into the Cox vehicle. Damage was estimated up to SI,OOO to Cox’s vehicle and under S2OO to Stevens' vehicle The second accident occurred at 1:17 p.m., at North Huntington Street and Washington Street. Thomas J. Xanders, 46. Syracuse, had stopped his 1985 Ford Econoline van at the corner of Washington Street and was waiting for traffic to pass to make a left turn. When he started pulling out onto Huntington Street he did not see a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis being driven by Sandra K. Lund. 41, Syracuse, that was traveling south. Before Xanders could stop his vehicle he struck the Lund vehicle. Damage to the van. registered to United Telephone Compariy of Indiana, was up to SI,OOO and up to $2,500 to Lunds' vehicle. Because another vehicle was coming from the northbound direction he pulled the United Telephone Company van to the side of the road. When pulling to the side, he hit a patch of ice and the vehicle started sliding. It hit a parked boat and trailer sitting along the side of the road. The boat and trailer, registered to Brad Smith. Syracuse, suffered up to $2,500 and damage was estimated up to SI,OOO to the van.
