Boys' freshman hoop team extends winning streak

(By SCOTT DAVIDSON Sports Writer The Wawasee freshman boys' basketball team extended its record to 4-0 on season after posting a 44-34 victory at Jimtown Monday. "It’s a good thing to win the close games and anytime that you can come away with a win on the road, especially on a Monday when it's difficult for the team to be ready, it’s a plus for us,” said coach Chuck Evans. The Warriors jumped to a 19-10

Swim squad takes third

(By SCOTT DAVIDSON Sports Writer “The team has been showing improvement and I’ve been pleased with the progress that were making,” stated Roger Karns, head coach of the Wawasee boys’ swim team, after the squad took third place in the seven-team field at the Goshen Relays Saturday. The Warriors compiled 96 team points to finish behind Concord, who easily captured first place with 136 points, and second place Penn (108). Following Wawasee were Warsaw (74). Goshen (66). Dial and CaseyKline) and the 400 freestyle relay (Kline. Schaekel. Dußois and Berkey). “We swam well in the crescendo, 400. 200 and 350 freestyle races, but we were hurt by our lack of depth in some areas and Concord looked even stronger than I anticipated and they really dominated." said Karns. The Warriors finished second in the diving relay, with the duo of Adam Wilson and Andy Dunithan, while the 350 freestyle relay threesome of Kline, Dußois and Berkey also captured second Wawasee placed fifth in the 400 IM relay race (Miller. The Warriors also received firsts from Dunithan (diving) and Dial (100 backstroke) in individual events, as well as top performances from the 200 medley relay foursome of Dial, Feaster. "Based on what I know from last season’s junior high results, Bremen will probably be the toughest opponent that we face in the next several games, but we need to just take one game

the conference portion of the season that begins with a January 11 meet at Goshen, Karns knows that his squad will be facing some tougher challenges. I By MITCHELL STINSON Sports Writer The Wawasee Warriors wrestling team dropped to 3-7 on the season after last night’s (Tuesday.) 41-32 .loss to the Goshen Redskins. Goshen's grapplers had to come from behind, scoring victories in the the last four matches to earn the win. The Warriors' highlights came in the middle weight dwfißions where they scored three consecutive pin victories. Chad Jones started it off in the 135-pound division, with a pin of Billy Gayton at the 3:05 mark. Dan Clevenger followed with a pin of Andy Riley at 3:02 of their 140-pound class matchup. Dan’s brother. Buster Clevenger, wrapped up the Warrior streak of pins when he pinned Tim Cox at 1:50 of the 145-pound contest. The upper weight classes belonged to the Redskins.
