PURCHASE PORTABLE PUMPS — Wawasee Property Owners Association recently purchased three state-of-the-art portable pumps for the Syracuse Fire Department. These portable flotation pumps are capable of pumping at pressure or in volume through a standard 1 1 a-inch fire hose. The Hale EYR Flotes are light enough for one man to carry if necessary, taken to a fire scene in a boat, started quickly and placed in the water to pump at pressure. These items will also enhance the department's ability to pump from the lake or channels whenever needed.

Skateboard park an uphill climb

Like the oversized ramp that presents an obstacle for many skateboarders, the Syracuse Park Board may not be able to climb a hill of its own. with cost, liability and logistics causing barriers for a proposed skateboard park Five youths and their adult representative. Robert Morel, presented the board with a petition bearing the names of 147 Syracuse youths supporting a skateboard park or area. The petition, presented to the board at its monthly meeting last night iTuesday) at the Syracuse Scout Cabin, stated that those signing would be willing to pay an admit tance fee for a park and wave the town of liability. However, board member Phil Stump questioned w hether such a waiver could be enforced. While one youth, .who's father < Kenneth Martin) is a Goshen attorney, maintained that there Was such a waiver that "will hold up in court." the board noted that it Would have to check with its own lawyer. Cost and land availability also concerned the board, although President KipSchumm maintained. "I think the park department is always open to things it can do to involve youths. " While he noted that the department is currently "landlocked." Sch um m did mention the possibility of utilizing property currently owned by the school "The school has 16 acres, but I don't really know what their plans are for it right now." he said, adding. "We may be able to

work something out down the road, but we don't have any immediate answers." Currently, many of the youths travel to Fort Wayne, which has the nearest skateboard park The city maintained park features two skating areas that are open during the regular park season Youths are charged for two hour
