Milford Public Library receives video library
Milford Public Library has received 23 new and uniquely valuable videos from the Chicago-based John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The videos are part of The MacArthur Library, a special collection of quality film/video productions dealing with areas of MacArthur Foundation interest such as health, peace and international cooperation, world environment and resources. The MacArthur Library video titles, by foundation program area,are: Health Program — Anyplace But o Here, Best Boy, Bravo Glorial, Four Lives: Portraits in Manic Depression. Full of Sound and Fury: Living With Schizophrenia Special Grants in Community Developments — Metropolitan Avenue, Four Voices, Squatters: The Other Philadelphia Story, You Got to Move ' .World Environment and Resources — Amazonia: A Celebration of Life, Costa Rica: Paradise Reclaimed. Jjß 111 TO CELEBRATE 60TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY — Harvey and Freda Hollar, r 2, Milford, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in Missionary Church, SR 19N, Nappanee. Mr. Hollar and the former Freda Tusing were married November 2, 1929, in Warsaw. He is a retired farmer, and Mrs. Hollar is a homemaker. The open house will be hosted by their daughters and spouses, Jackie and Norma Miller, Nappanee; and John and Betty Yoder, Elkhart. The Hollars have four grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. The couple requests no gifts.

O’DELLS CELEBRATE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY — Mr. and Mrs. Hubert O’Dell will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with a reception from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, to be held in the F.O.E. Building in Warsaw. The event will be hosted by their children and grandchildren. Hubert O’Dell and the former Harriette E. Warvel were married Dec. 23, 1939, at the residence of Floyd Stevens near Sidney by Rev. Charles Naftzger. They are celebrating their anniversary early in hopes that family members and friends will be able to attend. The couple have three daughters: Judy Ziie of Silver Lake; Barbara Lehman of Leesburg: and Cathy Vest of Greenfield. They also have nine grandchildren. * The O'Dells request no gifts.

The MacArthur Library Video Classics Project. The project enabled these libraries to obtain up to 20 popular PBS series in videocassette form at one-tenth their actual cost, or “through outright grants or other assistance from the foundation. In September 1988. the Milford Public Library received the MacArthur Library Video Classics, which include classic PBS video productions such as "The Jewel in the Crown” and “I, Claudius.” The foundation has spent more than $1.7 million on The MacArthur Library project; the total retail value of the tapes distributed to the 2,200 libraries exceeds $15.4 million. Titles in The MacArthur Library include “Best Boy,” the Academy Award-winning documentary on a 52-year-old retarded man’s journey into independence from his aging parents; "The Day After Trinity,” an Academy Awardnominated documentary on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the development of the Atomic bomb: “Points in Space," an award-winning BBC documentary of the choreography of. MacArthur Fellow Merce Cunningham; and "Amazonia: A Celebration of Life,” which studies Peru’s tropical rainforest, its diverse inhabitants, and the threat posed to them by deforestation. Viewer’s guides are supplied for free distribution by the libraries.” The MacArthur Foundation, established by John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur, has awarded more than $725 million in grants since 1978. The foundation supports programs in mental health, tropical medicine, conservation, population, education, peace and international cooperation, mass communitions, individual creativity, and. in Chicago and Palm Beach. Fla., cultural and community organizations.
Meals for Older Americans
Meals for Older Americans are served each day at the following locations: The Scout Cabin. Syracuse, 457-2631; Pierdeton Community Building, 594-5632; Mentone Community Room in the fire station, 353-7555; Retired Tigers Center. 320 W. Main. Warsaw, 269-3130; Free Methodist Church, Winona Lake, 269-6695; Church of the Brethren, North Webster, 834-7000; Silver Lake Lions Club Building, 352-3238. and Milford Community Building, 658-9702. Meals for Older Americans is for persons 60 years or older and is a chance to meet new friends and enjoy hot, nutritional meals. The sites are opened several hours each day including noon for programs. Meals for Older Americans is not associated with welfare but is for the promotion for better health for the older population. Donations are accepted for the meals. The site directors request all persons planning on attending the meals to make reservations by 1 p.m. the day prior to attending. Kuhn, r 1 box 151, Cromwell, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 5, with a reception at the Community Township Building in North Webster from 2-4 p.m. The reception will be hosted by their children, and family and close friends are invited. The Kuhns were married on Nov. 7, 1949. in Epworth Forest. North Webster. They have three children and 11 grandchildren. Kuhn is retired from Maple Leaf Farms, Milford. Mrs. Kuhn is a housewife. Library needs volunteers The Syracuse Public Library will need several volunteers during the week of Nov. 13-17 to help reorganize the fiction books in the children's department. NEW FLORAL SHOP — The Milford Flower Shop, owned by Rodney ’Pete’ and Brenda Peterson, will be celebrating its grand opening this Friday with free carnations to the first 50 ladies. The Petersons bought out the Smith Flower and Gift Shop and moved the business to what used to be the Milford Shoe and Clothing store, next to the post office and Whetten Pizza. The flower shop will carry a large selection of fresh and silk flowers, as well as balloons, plants and baskets. Delivery service will be available and. as an added bonus. Fiedecke Dry Cleaners will provide a pick-up dry cleaning service from the floral 'hap. FIRST RUNNER-UP IN STATE — Matilda Hasse, a Lakeland Loving Care resident, Milford, took first runner-up honors in the Tiffany Queen Contest held in Indianapolis on October 15. Hasse, who is 81, represented District II (northeast Indiana) of the Indiana Activities Directors Association. Prior to the state contest, Hasse became queen in a District II pageant.
