Born August 23. 1920. in Nappanee, she was the daughter of Charles and Eleanor Beeson Norris On November 19. 1938. she married Ray Roberts; he survives. Caller concerned by kids walking around in the Syracuse Cemetery
From the Syracuse Police Log c is a weekly feature which presents a sampling of the incidents the officers from the Syracuse Fire Department and Syracuse Police Department are called upon to deal with: WEDNESDAY, OCT. 18 ' An insurance salesman was reported going from residence to residence selling insurance. When police caught up with the salesman he was advised to get a permit. The salesman will be in ’ town the rest of the week Police were not able to locate a raccoon after a person reported such an animal near the town hall, by the street. The officer < drove around the building but could not locate the animal. THURSDAY. OCT. 19 The electric and telephone officials were contacted after a person came to the dispatcher to report the power and telephone ‘ system was out at a business. An extinguisher was used to extinguish a small fire at the VFW after an official there requested someone come and check the building. Persons were reportedly smelling hot wood.

The Salvation Army was on the scene at *he recent earthquake which rocked the bay area in California. a "Reports are sketchy.” notes Captain Ken Locke. Warsaw Salvation Army commander, “but I'm sure the needs are very great.” The Army has opened shelters and feeding stations. "This has been a very busy year for disasters and I'm sure after Hugo that our funds are being stretch ed to the limit.” commented Locke

SATURDAY, OCT. 21 Ari officer was needed by a driver who reported hitting a deer on SR 13. north of Syracuse, The accident happened in Elkhart County so the driver was advised to "notify that county 's sheriff's department. Police were requested to drive through the parking lot of the Lakeland Youth Center during the evening. Officials at the center, who were at the dance, reported there were some kids who wouldn't pay to come in and were smoking in the parking lot. refusing to leave. SUNDAY. OCT. 22 Concerned over kids walking around in the cemetery, a concerned resident notified police. There were six to eight teenagers, wearing blue jeans in the cemetery. Red Cross continues to need donations for disaster victims
As of October 20. a preliminary assessment of the San Francisco Bay Area Earthquake shows 4.751 families were affected in the seven-county stricken area; 155 homes were destroyed; 454 homes received major damage; and 4,142 homes received minor damage. Twenty Red Cross shelters are open, housing about 5,000 people. The American Red Cross is available for shelter, food, housing repair assistance and other emergency needs for earthquake victims. There is no charge for these emergency services.

Bauman, who died in 1975. Raised in the Milford area by her grandmother. Mrs. Henry Rassi. and an aunt, Emma Rassi. she was a 1927 graduate of Milford High School. Mrs. Bauman was co-owner of the former Bauman Landscaping Co for 45 years. She was a member of Bremen Bible Church. She is survived by two daughters, Dolores Drawert and Theresa Hemphill, and one son. Max Bauman, all of South Bend; 10 grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. Bloodmobile —
272 units collected
The end of September and the beginning of October consisted of five bloodmobiles in Kosciusko County. The total number of units collected., was 272. The Center United Methodist Church hosted a bloodmobile for the area of Silver lake. This “patient-related” was organized as aVgesture of concerned friendship, toward John Yoder. Fifty-one'(persons came that day. seven firsttimers. and 37 units were collected. exceeding the goal by 12 units. The Grace College Student Senate sponsored the fall Grace Schools bloodmobile where 146 prospective donors showed. 51 first-timers, collecting 121 units. The self-contained unit set up at First National Bank of Warsaw. where 19 came, one firsttimer. and 18 units were collected. Later that day, at Kosciusko Community Hospital. 22 people presented themselves and 20 units were collected. With the help of North Webster Church of God. Wawasee High School hosied their annual bloodmobile in which 89 persons came. 39 for the first time, and 76 units were collected, exceeding its goal by 16 units.
