Sheriff Ron Robinson stated the Syracuse area was being targeted. "We had been in contact with Dr. Roger Thornton. WCSC superintendent, and had conversations about the drug problem. After the meeting with Dr. Thornton. Henry Smith. Roger Kryder..and school principals, we decided we would try and target some of the people dealing in the school. “I know we did not identify all of them, we are still working dn drugs in Wawasee and every school in the county." noted the sheriff, who added they were not after the students who smoked pot. but those who were supplying. Cooperation between the sheriff's department and WCSC was “splendid ' Officials of the school corporation contacted some of the area businesses for donations to use for drug buy money. Some of the donations were anonymous. "It takes a lot of money to run a drug program." noted Sheriff Robinson. "We started targeting what we thought were students. We were led to three main students or former students. In going after them some led back to mom and dad, we found in most cases it was primarily dad." Sheriff Robinson stated. Only two of I

those three main persons were arrested, Irvin Senders and Jay Losee,. the third one, the father. Robert Miles, was arrested. The Arrests Shortly after 4 am., teams of officers went out to serve the warrants. Light snow was falling and the parking lot that was filled with vehicles 30 minutes prior was almost emptied. The first person was arrested and taken to the jail at 4:55<a.m. with the last one around 8:40 a m at which time 24 warrants had been served. There were no incidents encountered in any of the raids. "I thought it went real well. I'm pleased with the cooperation and turnout of everyone involved It went extremely fast this time." mentioned Sheriff Robinson, stating officers were caught up with interviews and most of the paperwork by 9-9:30a.m. ® Perhaps the only disappointment in the whole morning was the cancelled visit by .Governor Evan Bayh. The olane in which Gov. Bayh was flying in developed mechanical problems while he was in Michigan City. At first there was a delay, then a cancellation. During the briefing. Sheriff Robinson handed out praise for all officers working on the under-

cover investigation. "I think these guys have put in hours. They have done a real good job.” A Since the county’s special operation force was formed in May 1988, there have been three drug raids, December 1, 1988, April 5 and October 20. Efforts of this task force have taken down 127 persons in the county selling illicit drugs, made 375 drug purchases, and used $28,000 in buy money. Officers have taken over six kilograms of cocaine off the street and $300,000 in other street drugs. Sheriff Robinson noted the drug LSD is becoming popular in the county again. . To date, charges have totaled 30 class A felonies; 44 class B felonies; 34 class C felonies; 209 class D felonies; and 30 misdemeanors. Arrested In Raid The warrants ranged from class A misdemeanors to class A felonies. A total of 129 charges were filed: 19 class A misdemeanors; eight class A felonies; 13 class B felonies; four class C felonies and 85 class D felpnies. Even though some of the warrants were for persons residing outside of Kosciusko County, the people were residents of the county at the time the undercover investigation took place. There were six vehicles seized in the raid, however, according to the sheriff, some of the vehicles were given back to the owners as there was too much money owed on the vehicles. If a vehicle is seized and money is owed on the vehicle, the sheriff's department has to pay off the loan. Persons arrested in the raid, their charges and bonds posted were: Scott A.
