building, the small congregation met at the Shanklins' home on Harkless Drive. Then, for a period of just five months, services were held at the Lakeland Youth Center. "It just wasn't the ideal place, " says Pastor Shanklin of why the services were moved to he and his wife's second home in Syracuse on Syracuse, Webster Road. "We couldn't advertise and had to depend strictly on word-of-mouth." But yet another factor led to the move, that being that the Freedom Chapel group was only allowed to use the premises for Sunday morning services — dampening any ideas of special services. Licensed and ordained by Lester Sumrail's LeSea Ministries. Inc., the Freedom Chapel started with just three families: the Shanklins, a family from Granger, and one from

Bristol. Even today, the church draws most of the congregation from out of tow n. But the church now allows for seating up to 110 comfortably, a number the Freedom Chapel hopes to someday meet by adding more local families to the congregation. Now offering a Sunday morning and Wednesday evening praise and worship service, Pastor Shanklin says that as soon as a music leader can be found, a Sunday evening service will be added. Regular services at the church are held Sunday's at 10 a m . and Wednesday's at 7 p.m. After those services the altar remains open, as Pastor Shanklin explains. for those wanting healing, prayer, or deliverance.
