Lady swimmers 5-1 after defeating Bremen and Homestead

The Wawasee girls’ swim team upped its season mark to 5-1 after posting wins over Bremen (64-17) and Fort Wayne Homestead (50-31) in a double-dual meet held in the Wawasee Pool last night (Tuesday). "The girls swam and dove well and we’re pleased with the progress that the team is making,” commented coach Roger Karns after the victory. The Lady Warriors used seven first place efforts to defeat Homestead, including a school record performance in the 200-yard Individual Medley by Krista Guimond (2:24.89) and a new pool record in one-meter diving by Julie Gunn (255.40 points). Red Ribbon drug-free softball tourney

Wawasee Kiwanis Club will be sponsoring a one-pitch softball tournament on October 14 and 15 at Vega Field in Syracuse. There are openings for 10 teams and there is a registration fee for the tournament. The winning team will receive a cash prize.

Harriers move to top of NIC

The Wawasee Warriors boys' cross country team established itself as the top team in the Northem Lakes Conference with a double victory at Warsaw yesterday. In a battle of unbeatens. the Warriors came away with a narrow 27-30 victory over the Warsaw Tigers and remained undefeated for the season. Combined with their 15-49 win over Concord at the tri-meet. the Warriors' record stands at 4-0 in the conference and 7-0 overall. Warsaw's squad appears to be the toughest competition that the Warriors will face in the conference so the victory was extra important. “It puts us in pretty good shape in the conference for the boys." said Warriors coach Jerry Minton. Warsaw's Jay Hicks won the meet in a time of 16 minutes and 20 seconds. Warriors Jason Douglas and Eric Streby followed in second and third place respectively. The Wawasee varsity volleyball squad slipped to 3-12 on the 89 season after dropping a 3-15. 11-15 match to Whitko at home last night ( Tuesday). Angela Kistler led the Lady Warriors’ effort with eight digs while teammate Kriss Eisenhour had 10 spikes with three kills Diane Karst contributed six blocks in the defeat. East Side, ranked 10th, was second with 119 and the 13th-ranked East Noble Knights scored 124 points en route to a third-place finish. The W'arriors. who came into the meet ranked No. 12, tallied 155 points while taking fourth place. West 'Noble’s Chargers rounded out the top five with a 166 total. Girls Take Third Wawasee’s lady harriers had a fine outing too, taking third place out of 18 entries. Sophomore Hobbs was the top finisher for the Lady Warriors, taking 12th place in a time of 18:01. Other Wawasee trophy-winners were Garner, who took 21st, and Gargett. who came in 26th. "That’s the highest we’ve finished in a big invitational in a long time.” Minton said of his girls.
