New Wawasee Church of the Nazarene
By JEREMY BEER
An indoor gymnasium that doubles as a sanctuary is just one of the many features that the new Wawasee Community Church of the Nazarene has to offer. The church, which was completed on July 2, i$ located across the road from where the new middle school will be located on SR 13. Besides the "sanctinasium", the church has many advantages over the old Church of the Nazarene in Syracuse. That church was nearly 100 years old, had no off-street parking, only one dependable restroom, no handicap facilities, no fellowship area, inadequate Sunday School space, and no office space. The new church solves all of those problems, while adding features such as the indoor gymnasium, a large kitchen, and a copy machine. The most impressive of these may be the-sanctuary - gymnasium. It has backboards which are easily raised and

lowered, and carpeting on the floors and walls (which makes the sanctuary nearly acoustically perfect). Also, everything in it is portable, including the altars, organ, podium, and chairs. Pastor Ron Blake, who says that he comes from “a school of thought that says that when you rebuild a church, you build a large multi-purpose room," adds that the room can also be used for banquets and other large gatherings. However versatile the room. Blake points out that the church is still planning on building a sanctuary adjacent to the south end of the current building. Blake says that when he arrived from Texas five and a half years ago to take over the pastor position at the church, they were already planning on rebuilding. According to him. the congregation "scoured the area” from the North edge of Syracuse to the spot where the church is now located. Now, With the addition of the middle school across the road. Blake claims that it is obvious that the church made the

right decision. Its location is also part of the reason the church changed its name from Syracuse Church of the Nazarene to the Wawasee Community Church of the Nazarene. Since the new church was opened. the congregation has doubled in size — from nearly 100 to close to 200. One hundred, though, was over capacity for the old church. Blake estimates that anywhere from 400 to 500 people could squeeze into the new and improved church of the Nazarene. Programs are not nearly as limited at the new church, either. Blake cites the upcoming Marriage Enrichment Seminar, which requires a kitchen. In the past. Wawasee High School had to be rented for this seminar, but not now. The new church has all the room and the facilities that are required. Sunday School starts at 9:30 and the worship service at 10:30 at the Wawasee Community Church of the Nazarene. There is also a Sunday evening service at 6 and a Wednesday evening prayer meeting at 7.

NEW HYMNALS AT CALVARY CHURCH — The Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse recently purchased approximately 300 new hymnals for use by its congregation. The new hymnals, which contain popular old hymns as well as modern ones, were purchased through donations by members of the Calvary congregation and each one contains a donor plate. The new hymnals will be used for the first time this Sunday at Calvary as a "Hymn Festival Service" will beheld during both the 8:45 and 10:40 a.tn. services at the church on SR 13. All of the music during the service will be from the new hymnals and the hymnals will be received in symbolic representation by leaders of the music, education, youth and children’s ministries at the church. Pictured above are three of the approximately 25 volunteers who met at the church on Monday morning to prepare the new hymnals for their initial use this Sunday. From left are: Elaine Darr. Fall revival at Christian Church
The Christian Church of Milford is excited about the upcoming Fall Revival with Dale Holzbauer and Gene Higgins. Holzbauer will be preaching and giving a thrilling testimony to the power of God and what can hap pen when one gives himself completely to the Heavenly Father. A second degree blackbelt and former Olympic weight lifter. Holzbauer tells an amazing story of his life explaining that when he was born, the doctor told his parents that he would not live to be three years old because his heart was so weak. He will be preaching each evening Sunday. Sept. 24, through Wednesday. Sept. 27. He will also be giving a karate demonstration on the opening night. Gene Higgins is from Chattanooga, Tenn . and will be coming as the song evangelist during the week. Higgins is an accomplished song writer, producer. and recording artist. His song "Holy For You" recently made it to the top 20 on gospel stations across the country. His warm personality and "down South" friendliness, combined with his singing make him an enjoyable person to know. His songs minister to those who hear because it is quickly evident that he sings about a Lord he personally knows. Higgins will be singing 15 minutes prior to each evening service plus presenting a full length concert on Thursday evening. The members of the Christian Church, along with the ministers t
