' Shively (Don) Duncan Shively (Don) Duncan, 76, Fort Wayne, died at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 1989, in Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne. Bom November 22, 1912, in Kosciusko County, he was the son of Maurice and Gertrude Shively Duncan. He was married to Mary M. Marvin; she survives. A1931 graduate of Milford High School, Mr. Duncan retired in 1978 as owner of S. D. Duncan Construction. He was a member of North Christian Church, Fort Wayne, and Summit City Lodge 170 F&AM. He had been transferred to Indianapolis on August 21 from Goshen Hospital to undergo tests and receive medication for an undetermined infection. MARK TATMAN UNDERGOES SURGERY Mark Tatman, Syracuse clerktreasurer, underwent major surgery Sunday evening at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis. Born November 11,1911, in Colfax, lowa, she was the daughter of Fred A. and Frances Barnes Thomas. On February 8, 1929, in Des Moines, she married Marion S. Cooper, who died October 5, 1982. Driver loses control of car
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents this past week: On Sunday, Sept. 10, at 10.05 am., Michael R. Fishbaugh, 20, r 2 box 198, North Webster, lost control of his 1984 Pontiac after the steering jerked hard on the car causing it to go off the road. He complained of pain to his neck and was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital. His car received up to $5,000 in damage. Failure to yield the right of way resulted in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of SR 15 and CR 200N on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 5:50a.m. R. Douglas Smith, 42, 102 N. Jefferson, Leesburg, was driving a 1987 Pontiac southbound on SR 15 and had stopped at the intersection. He waited for another vehicle to make a left turn, then he proceeded to make the turn and didn’t see a motorcycle approaching which was being driven by Bruce A. Ward, 36, 10221 7th Rd. East, Plymouth, and struck it. Ward received minor bleeding to his elbow/lower arm/hand and complained of pain to his back. Damage to Smith’s auto was listed at under S2OO. Ward’s 1986 motorcycle received up to $2,500 in damage. A driver falling asleep was the cause of a one-car accident Saturday, Sept. 9, at 5:15 a.m. on CR 200N, west of 100E. Stephenie D. Angel, 18, 2537 E. CR 2255, Warsaw, fell asleep at the wheel and her auto struck a light pole and went off the road. Damage to her 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass was under $2,500. An out-of-town driver unfamiliar with the road resulted in a one-vehicle accident Sunday, Sept. 3, at 10:46 p.m. Elizabeth W. Steele, 18, 440 E. 71st, Indianapolis, was driving a 1985 Nissan west on Epworth Forest Road, east of SR 13, when she made a left-hand turn around a curve and lost control, striking a NIPSCO junction box and going

Oveta Smits, 91, and Anna Johnston, 86, were transported to Syracuse. Births HENDERSON, Kyler Kain Kenneth and Teresa Henderson, r 2 box 80, Milford, are the parents of their first child, a son named Kyler Kain. He was born at 11:36 a m. Friday, Sept. 8, 1989, in Elkhart Hospital. He weighed eight pounds and one and one-half ounces and was 21 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Jack and Loretta Reynolds, Big Prairie, Ohio. Gallmeier, 43, r 3 box 262, Syracuse, was driving a 1988 Chevrolet van west on Old Road 8 and struck a parked 1987 Mercedes, registered to William M. Correll, ADR 10427 Breckon Ridge, Carmel. Gallmeier stated that as she was making a left turn onto Denzel Drive she noticed a car that was very close to her in the back and she was afraid it was going to hit her. She did not notice the Correll vehicle which was parked in the roadway approximately four-five feet. Gallmeier said that no one came to check the Mercedes so she went to call the sheriff’s department and when she returned the Mercedes was gone. Diabetes support group to meet A support group meeting for children and teens with diabetes will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the administration building classroom at Kosciusko Community Hospital. Waldo L. Adams Waldo L. Adams, 90, r 2, Leesburg, died Friday, Sept. 8, 1989, ats:sop.m. in Mason Health Care Facility. The son of William and Norah Black Adams, he was born in Claypool on March 7, 1899. On June 4, 1926, he married Mabie Dickey; she survives. In 1922, he graduated from Manchester College and in 1930 from the University of Chicago where he earned a master’s degree. From 1927-33 he was superintendent of schools in Elkhart County and in Sturgis, Mich., from 1933-39. He had resided in Kosciusko County since 1939. He had taught school in a one-room school at Mt. Pleasant and was principal at Etna Green. From 1958-60 he taught in Akron and in the Rochester schools until 1973. He also was a farmer in the Beaver Dam area for many years. Adams was a member of Leesburg United Methodist Church and served as past lay leader of many United Methodist churches. He was an Army veteran of World War I, and member of Rochester Masonic Lodge, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine Temple, Retired Teachers Association and Phi Delta Kappa fraternity at University of Chicago. He was a charter member of Kosciusko County Historical Society, past director of Federal Land Bank, Goshen, and Production Credit Association, director for REMC for many years, and was Kosciusko County Historian. She was born on April 5,1905, in Moran, the daughter of Clyde and Alice Yundt Bunnel. On May 5,< 1926, she married Edwin Sheets. He preceded her in death in 1962. She moved two and a half years ago to Syracuse from Rossville where she was a member of Rossville Presbyterian Church. ’ Surviving are one son, Lynn Sheets, Syracuse; two grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. Junelle Phillips, 74, 1200 Burr Oak Place, Elkhart, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 1989, at 5:30 a.m. in Fountainview Place, Elkhart, where she was admitted on Friday following an extended illness. She was the mother of Victoria Ann Kelly, Syracuse. She was born in Elkhart on July 26, 1915. On October 6, 1934, she married Ivan P. Phillips. He preceded her in death on August 17.1972 She was employed from 1973-1979 with Elkhart County and was a member of Bristol United Methodist Church. Also surviving are one additional daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Peggy) Lewis, Tulsa; six grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; and one sister, Jean Eckhart, Elkhart. She was preceded in death by a son, David, on August 15,1972. Services were held this afternoon, Wednesday, at 1 p.m. in Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home with Rev. William Shannon officiating. Damage was reported to a sign by a caller. The caller reported if a police report was wanted, he will be calling back. WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 6 The dispatcher referred a person to the county sheriff’s department when he came to the dispatch office and requested to know the location of a certain camping area. • The telephone number was given to a caller of the license branch, after the caller wanted to know if the license branch was open today. THURSDAY, SEPT. 7 A caller requested to know what township Syracuse was in. The dispatcher advised the person it was Turkey Creek. Information on w'hat to do about neighbors making threats was sought by a caller. FRIDAY, SEPT. 8 The address to send paperwork was requested by a caller. The address’was needed in relation to an ambulance run. Who do you call for a dog in the county? This question was asked of the dispatcher by a resident, who also stated the humane shelter would not come and pick up. William T. Church Retired Muncie sporting goods dealer and outdoor columnist for The Muncie Star, William T. Church, 80. Riverside Avenue, Muncie, and a summer resident of Lake Webster, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 1989. in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, where he had been a patient a few weeks. A native of Mansfield, Ohio, Mr. Church grew up in Bangor, Mich. He was married to Jane Root in December 1934. The Church family has maintained a summer cottage at Epworth Forest, North Webster, for many years. He graduated from high school in Bangor in 1926 and received an AB degree from Albion College in 1934. He taught at Chillicothe High School, 111., from 1934-39 until joining the Caterpillar Tractor Co., where he was employed until 1943. After serving in the United States Navy from 1944-46, he went to Muncie to help his brother-in-law, Darrell Parsons, establish the Retz Sporting Goods store. He sold his interest in the sport goods store in 1966 and began selling guns and fishing tackle for a Dayton, Ohio, firm. 11l health forced his retirement in 1979. His outdoor column, “Let Me Tell You,” appeared in The Star and other newspapers for nearly 30 years. He was a member of Outdoor Writers of America, Great Lakes Outdoor Writers and past president of Hoosier Outdoor Writers. A 50-year member and past president of Muncie Kiwanis Club, Mr. Church had recently received a Legion of Honor award for his service to the local and state Kiwanis organizations. He was also a member of Delta Tau Delta, Alpha Phi Gamma and Phi Delta Kappa. Surviving in addition to his wife, June, are one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Jane Anne) Kennedy, and one son, Louis D. Church, both of Muncie; nine grandchildren; one greatgranddaughter; one niece and one nephew.

The officer found that the person was trying to get the horse to stand up after it had laid down. A person reported during the early hours that two young persons were standing by a Main Street business and were possibly trying to break-in. The officer checked the business and found everything to be secure. He

Mrs. Peace was a nurse’s aide at Crawford Hospital, Crawfordsville. A short time later, the EMS was called to transport two residents from Columbia City to Syracuse. MONDAY, SEPT. 11 A complaint of a person’s dogs was received by the dispatcher. The caller reported the dogs were running loose and making a mess, in his yard. Shortly after the stop sign at SR 13 and Maple Grove was reported as being knocked down, two persons came to the dispatcher’s office with the sign.
