10 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 12,1979 Volunteers have helped raise the roof on the Milford Fire Station. The new gable roof was placed over the 20-year-old ouilt up flat roof over the week end. The gable roof will need less maintenance and will last 15-20 years. Assistant chief Max Duncan stated that with volunteers working as laborers the cost has turned out less expensive than anticipated. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Morehouse, r 1 Milford, recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at a local restaurant with their daughters and families. The Morehouses were married on August 30, 1939, in Peru. Dr. T. A. Miller of Milford won the Lions 25G Golf Tournament at Maxwelton Golf Club in Syracuse last month. Dr. Miller placed ahead of 216 golfers entered in the tournament and won a golf bag and club. Dr. Miller has been ar avid golfer for 15 years. Accidents investigated at Milford

Milford Deputy Marshal Aaron Rovenstine investigated two accidents in Milford last week. On Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 2:50 p.m., a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of SR 15 and Section Street. Gary L. Fields, 37, 102 Springs St., Wakarusa, was southbound on SR 15 and applied the brakes to his truck because of a vehicle in front of him was braking. Brett A. Clossin, 25, r 1 box 201, Pierceton, who was following him, applied his brakes causing his vehicle to slide on wet payment and strike Fields’ 1989 Ford truck in the rear. Fields truck, registered to Ultimaster, 65288 SR 19, Wakarusa, received up to SI,OOO. Clossin’s 1978 GMC truck received up to $2,500. No one was injured. In the second accident, a driver running a stop sign was the cause of the two-vehicle collision. Brenda S. Peterson, 26, r 5 box 315, Syracuse, was making a left turn at the intersection from First Street onto Main Street when her vehicle was struck a car driven by Ruth M. Cain, 74, 351 W. Walnut, Nappanee. Both drivers stated that Cain ran the stop sign. Limbs downed flooding as storm hits Downed limbs and temporary flooding in areas were reported in North Webster as a result of heavy rains last Thursday evening. Sept. 7. The storm had just went through the community w;hen the National Weather Service issued the severe thunderstorm warning. According to North Webster Town Marshal Jerry Craig, SR 13 in front of the American Legion was flooded and at one time had three to four inches of water on the road. There were also several reports of short power outages in scattered areas. It is reported North Webster Firemen were called to Barge Barn Marine at SR 13 and Epworth Forest Road, however, there was no fire. Also lightening is suspected as the cause of a car fire in a storage lot for Roy’g Shell Station.

ding the Medical College of Georgia and majoring in radiology. 20 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 10, 1969 Mr. and Mrs. Perry Hoover of r 1 Milford were honored on their 70th wedding anniversary Sunday. Some 140 persons from the Lakeland area and as far away as St. Petersburg, Fla., visited with them during the day. Mrs. Betty Himes of Milford has received word that her son, James Rummel has been wounded in Viet Nam and is currently in a hospital in Japan. Rummel, a member of the first marine division, was with a company near Chu Lai on August 22 when it was ambushed. The young marine entered the service last September and arrived in Viet Nam February 10. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fisher have purchased the late Della Coy home in Milford and plan to move around November 1. “ Mr. and Mrs. Kendall Biller of Milford accompanied their son Kent to Indianapolis on Friday where he is enrolled as a freshman at Indiana Central college.

Two Milford residents are among the recent graduates from Ivy Tech in South Bend. Both Allene Kilmer and Mrs. Ollie Schlotterback received practical nursing degrees. 30 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 10,1959 A baseball thrown before Jeff Dippon had his catcher’s equipment on resulted in a cracked hand bone at the index finger knuckle. Jeff will be wearing a cast on his right hand for the next few weeks. Miss Mary Ann Williams, daughter of Mrs. Dorothy Williams, is now a member of the United States Navy. She is a private secretary at the Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kinney, Sr., are the parents of a baby boy born Aug. 31 at 1:12 am. at Goshen General hospital. The baby weighed 8 pounds, 814 ounces. The Kinneys have two other children, Cindy Lee, 4, and Donald Eugene, I*4 years old. Walter Drug Co. has installed a new tile ceiling making the store look much lighter. About the first of October the walls will be papered, and the rest of the interior will be painted. Vern brought twelve three quarter pound bluegills in Rassi’s Auto Supply store defying anyone to meet or beat it.
