10 YEARS AGO. AUG. 29, 1979 Daniel C. Levemier of Milford was recently honored at the Midwestern United Life Insur ince Company sales convention in Harbor Springs, Mich., commemorating the company's 31st anniversary. Mrs. Melba Gardner of Milford returned on Saturday evening to her Milford home. She had been visiting her son Jack and his family at Lawton, Oklahoma, for two weeks. Mrs. Gardner has had an eventful summer. Earlier in the season she was entertained at the home of her nephew, John and his son at Waubee Lake. Robert Alan Nordin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Nordin, Milford, has been accepted for admission to Cumberland College, Lebanon, Tenn., for the 1979-90 academic year.

New teachers at Milford Elementary and Junior High Schools are Paula Popenfoose, Suzie Pittman, Carol Landrigan, Darcy Mock, Cindy Rich, Jim Zielasko and Jim Kaiser. 20 YEARS AGO, AUG. 27,1969 Victoria Little of Milford recently returned from Europe where she was studying with World Academy schools for Foreign Study, taking a course in comparative European government. Mrs. Gary Culp of Elizabeth, N. J., is spending the week visiting with her mother, Mrs. Joe Sunthimer, of Milford. Mrs. Culp is the former Jennifer Sunthimer and would enjoy hearing from her friends while she is here. Rev. Chester Bahn has been secured as a part-time pastor of

the Bethel Church of the Brethren in Milford. Rev and Mrs. Bahn will begin their pastorate on September 1. Air force staff sgt. Donald James, Jr., 39, whose two sons, Donald and Dan, reside in Milford, died in Viet Nam on August 17 of an apparent heart attack. James was loading a cargo plane being readied for a support mission when he suffered the attack. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Haab of Milford are moving into the farm house of the late Maurice Duncan on r 2 Milford. The Milford junior girl scouts troop 225 met Saturday at the Robert Nordin home for a pet show. Show winners were dogs, Mary Hoover; cats, Theresa Barth; rabbits, Sherry Young; birds, Mary Nyikos. Grand champion was a rabbit exhibited by Amy Vanlaningham. Jane and Becky Zimmerman of r 2 Milford will participate in the 1969 Indiana State Fair when they appear on stage Friday, Aug. 29, in the farmer’s building in the district two Farm Bureau contest. The girls will be featured with a clarinet duet. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Zimmerman. Mrs. James Brooks and Mrs. Ted Brooks entertained at a baby shower Thursday night in the former’s home for Jennifer Ann Kline, three week old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Kline of Milford. Price, Milford veteranian, is attending the 76th annual convention of the American Veterinary Medical Association at Memphis, Tenn. Miriam Dewart and O A Lambert were successful in arranging an audition with the National Broadcasting Company that they could play before the company’s cities at Kimball Hall in Chicago last Thursday night. * 3, ■HE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH — Barb Waltemath has been named Employee of the Month for August at Lakeland Loving Care Center, Milford. Waltemath began working at the center in March 1983, as a nurse aide and later transferred to the housekeeping department. In 1984, she was named supervisor of the department. Waltemath was born and lived most of her life in Fort Wayne. She moved to the Milford area when she began working at Lakeland Loving Care. She says that she loves her job and is very content in it and stated that she “will walk with her cane cleaning rooms.” Waltemath enjoys the residents and feels they contribute much to her day. “It’s nice to be able to give back to them. If it wasn’t for them (the residents), it would just be a job.” Waltemath is the mother of three children: Ross, Connie and Michefle, and the grandmother of four-year-old Ashley.
