Yoder remarked that the team had been set back by some injuries during the pre-season and that she was hoping to have the squad healthy before the season opener "Our hustle in practices has been really good and our attacking on offense has also been really strong." she said The Lady Warriors will be trying to post a 500 season this year with a rew offense as well as a different defense from a year ago "I feel good about our offense because we have some good servers and, hitters, but our new defense will probably be our major weakness until we get used to reading the other team's offense and we get our movement down." the coach added With just one player gone from last year's team, the Lady Warriors will be counting on a solid nucleus of four seniors, five juniors and one sophomore to get the varsity program back on the winning track "The players are
talented, with senior Tim Lilly leading the way "The receiving corps is ready, no problem." Dickerson said "If we get time to throw the ball, for the most part they'll catch it." They were catching it on Friday. as Conkling led his team on a march to the end zone on the Warriors' first series of possessions. Tim Lilly culminated the scoring drive with a five-yard touchdown reception at 7:55 of the one-quarter contest Randy Cesco added the extra point to make it 7-0. The Minutemen mounted a rally in the waning moments of the game but a 12-yard pass into the end zone fell incomplete as time expired The.jroles were reversed in the Warriors' jamboree matchup against the Jimtown Jimmies. The physical Jimmie team marched down the field to score on its first series of possessions and the Warriors found themselves down 6-0 with 8:03 left in the game. With Conkling leading the way. a last second carried the Warriors to the opponent's

16-yard line with one second left. Wawasee's gridders elected to go for the field goal on the game's last play but Cesco’s kick missed the mark. Coach Dickerson said the jamboree didn't provide him with any real surprises. "I thought we did well in the areas we thought we would do well and we had problems in the areas we thought we would." he said Dickersort acknowledges that the passing game looked good on Friday but he doesn't place too much stock in a practice session like the jamboree In real game conditions. Conkling will have to deal with more aggressive, blitzing defenses "The game will change as soon as those linebackers crash in on us." the coach said The play in the trenches will be the key for the Warriors. The offensive line will need to protect Conkling and the defensive line will need to contain its opponents Seniors Craig Streby <6-foot-3. 286). and Randy Cesco (6-foot-l. 225) provide some size on the offensive line The line play may be a question mark for the time being. but Dickerson expects positive results as the season progresses "We have some good young people that will get the job done but it s going to take awhile." he said
