The Tippecanoe Lake Country Club 18-Hole Ladies Golf Association held a tie to green minus putts competition last Wednesday at the Leesburg course, with 16 ladies capturing awards in the four different flights of competition. In A flight action, Carol Sholl, Vai Finkenbiner, Marcia McNagfly and Karen Mayer were the winners.

Low gross, low net and low putts was the play of the day in the Tippy Tuesday Niners women’s golf league Tuesday. Jeanie Van Meter had the best low gross score in the A-flight. Mary Trier took first in the low net division and Ruth Phillips came out on top in the low putts category.

Wawasee Summer Swimmers place 24th at state meet
Thirteen members of the Wawasee Summer Swim Team competed at the Indiana Junior Olympic/Age Group State swim meet last weekend (Aug. 5-6) at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. The Wawasee swimmers concluded the competition with a 24th place finish in the overall team standings, with the boys division of the team cracking into the top 20 with a 19th place finish in the two-day event. Andy Kryder led the swimmers with a second place finish in the 100-meter freestyle (:57.30), third in the 50-meter freestyle (26.66), fourth in the 200-meter freestyle (2:07.56), 12th in the 100-meter backstroke (1:13.32) and an 18th place effort in the 100-meter breaststroke event. Eric Schaekel placed sixth in the 50-meter freestyle (27.3?) and also finished 18th in both the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke events, Kryder and Schaekel teamed up with Eric Swartzendruber and Justin Banks to capture a sixth place finish in the 200-meter freestyle relay event and a- ninth place finish in the 200-meter medley relay race. LWBA to hold meeting Aug. 16 The Lakeland Women’s Bowling Association will hold an open meeting Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m., in Cocinero’s Party Hall at Syracuse. All members are urged to attend. took the top overall honors in his division but he also set a new regional tournament record with his performance in the slalom competition. With his score 50.00 in the event, Bucher broke the record of 45’2 that had stood since 1963. He also added a second place finish in the tricks competition and a fourth place effort in the jumping event to win the junior boys division. With his performance this past weekend, Bucher qualified to compete in the National Water Ski Championships to be held Aug. 15-19 in Zachary, La. Plummer, competing in the men’s 111 jumping event, registered a fourth place finish in the. tournament while Jan Karr, also of the Cindonway team, finished in second place in the tricks event in the women's! 111 division. . The five other skiers from tSe Cindonway Shores team who competed were: Don Bucher (men’s 111 slalom), Kim Contos (men’s II slalom), Jeremy Plummer (junior boys tricks), John Gradle (men’s 111 slalom) and Jim Beck (men’s II slalom). The Camelot Lakes Ski Team had three skiers competing, with Denny Carroll turning in the top effort with a second place finish in the men’s 111 jumping competition. Jane Tully competed in the
slalom, tricks and jumping in the women’s I division while Todd Smith competed in the men’s I jumping event. At the conclusion of the tournament, both Brandon and Shane Bucher were named to the Midwest Region Junior Development Team. The team is comprised of the top three skiers in each of the age groups and is designed to help the top skiers from throughout the Midwest to improve their skills at camps in order to compete better on the national level. It was also announced at the conclusion of the tournament that the 1990 Midwest Regional Tournament will be held at Cindonway Shores and Camelot Lake in August of next year.

VOLLEYBALL CAMP WINNERS — These girls won individual honors at the Wawasee Volleyball Camp, which concluded last Friday. Award categories for the different grade levels included passing and setting, along with the Pride, Hustle and Desire award. Tricia Preston was the top setter among the sixth and seventh graders. She also won a Pride, Hustle and Desire award. Bethany Cockburn was the best passer at that grade level. In the eighth-ninth grade division, Angela Leamon won the Pride, Hustle and Desire award.
