operating officer, has been elected by its board to the additional post of chief executive officer effective as of August 1. Gerald B. Mitchell, who has served as Dana’s CEO since December 1979, will remain chairman until early 1990 when he will retire in accordance with long-standing plans. Morcott, 51, joined Dana as a sales engineer in 1963 after completing undergraduate studies at Davidson College, two years as a military officer in West Germany, and a master’s degree in business administration at the University of Michigan. His career since then has been spent entirely with Dana. He served as manager of Dana’s piston ring manufacturing plant in Tipton, and was later named president of Dana World Trade Corporation. In 1975 he moved to Canada as vice president- operations and, later, president of Hayes-Dana Inc., Dana’s Canadian subsidiary. Morcott returned to the United States in 1980 as a group vice president of Dana Corporation responsible for service parts and distribution in North America, and in 1984 became president of Dana’s North American Operations. In 1986 he became president and chief operating officer of Dana Corporation. He has been a Dana director since 1985. He will retain the titles of president and chief operating officer along with the additional responsibilities and title of chief executive officer. Mitchell, 62, a career Dana employee, joined Hayes-Dana, Inc., the company’s Canadian subsidiary in 1944. He progressed steadily through a number of increasingly responsible assignments to become president of Hayes-Dana in 1963. He was named executive vice-president of Dana in 1967 and president in 1972. He has been chief executive officer since 1979 and chairman of the board since 1980. Commenting on the management changes, Mitchell said, “Woody Morcott and his career are typical of the Dana style in action. He is a career Dana person with wide experience in all facets of the company’s operations. He has worked on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border and headed our world trade operations. As a former plant manger he knows manufacturing, and, on top of that, he has had experience in the marketing distribution side of the business, which is an area of strategic emphasis. He is very well qualified to lead Dana.” Morcott said, “I’m looking forward to the opportunity of leading Dana. Gerry Mitchell has positioned this company well for the future — we have enormous potential for growth as the world changes and the importance of being a truly global company becomes apparent.
