It happened . . .

10 YEARS AGO, AUG. 8,1979 “Miss Milford,” Amy Speicher, was totally surprised when her name was called as the 24th Kosciusko County Fair Queen. Miss Speicher collected the winning $3,005.70 to be crowned the 1979 Fair Queen. Winning Little League awards last Friday night at Milford were Todd Wilson, rookie of the year; Tim Clever, hitting award; Randy Beer, fielding award; Paul Richardson. Mark Holderread Memorial Award; Tracy Ryman, sportsmanship award; Karl Schmucker, pitching award; and Randy Jessop, hustle award. The Grand Champion barrow was sold to Lowery Shopping Center of Warsaw last Thursday night and brought a whopping $7 per pound, more than double the amount sold last year. The animal was shown by Cindy Kammerer, 18. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kammerer of r 2 Leesburg. Cindy is a 1979 graduate of Wawasee High School and a member of the Milford Happy Bachelor's 4-H Club. Winners in the summer reading program at the Milford library were Bobbi Haab. Becki Haab. Mindy Beatty. Rita Beer, Sharon Gerenscer, Douglas Stump, Lisa Kaiser, Jared Beer, Renee Beer, Tina Clouse, Shannon Angle, Alex Lozano, Janette Cone, Shawna Miller, Kelly Brooks, Julie Fulp and Claudia Ginger. AUG. 6,1959 A complete teacher list for the coming school year at the Milford school, plus a reshuffling of administrative personnel was announced this week by the office of supervising principal Harold Young. Principal Young has been named supervising principal with jurisdiction over grades 1 to 12, and Donn Kesler, commerce teacher, will become principal of the high school and will continue to teach commerce. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Leverniei have sold their home on north Main street to Mr. and Mrs. Guy Lichtenwalter who will occupy their new home shortly. The Levernier family is moving this weekend into the house formerly known as the Jehu Beer residence and now owned by Walter Wuthrich. FFSB marks record year

First Federal Savings Bank of Wabash had another record year according to Nick George, president. Those remarks were made at the annual shareholders meeting held July 25. George said that total assets had increased by 5.5 percent to a balance in excess of s6l million. Total loans increased by over 11 percent to a balance in excess of S4B million. Total deposits increased by 5.5 percent to a balance in excess of $54.5 million. More importantly, George reported that reserves and surplus increased to an excess of $4.9 million which equates to a net worth to assets ratio in excess of eight percent.
