AMBULANC ' - HEADED FOR THE BORDER — This picture was taken before Charlie Haffner, Syracuse, and Anna Cathrine Holm, an exchange student from Norway, took a used ambulance, purchased by Saint * Martin DePorres Catholic Church, full of clothing to Mexico. Haffner explained while they had plann- ’’ ed on taking the supplies to the Yucatan because it was recently hit by a hurricane, plans changed when they discovered that the storm dumped water on Monterrey, killing over 150 people. Holm, an 18-year-old exchange student, has been staying in the Haffner home as a part of the Lions Youth Exchange Program. Holm’s father is a pilot and this has afforded her the opportunity for brief visits to New York, California and Florida, but this has been her first extended visit in the states. This recent trip south added nine states and Mexico to Holm’s list of places visited. Mexico was a bit reminiscent of Spain, says Holm, but she admitted that the poverty in Mexico was quite ‘shocking.” One of Holm’s favorite stops on the way back north, was at Elvis’s home. She really wanted to see it and was very happy that they were able to make Graceland a part of their trip. Holm says she has had a very positive experience in the United States and will encourage her younger brother to participate in this exchange program. Shown are Anna Cathrine Holm and Haffner. LOUISA'S LETTER , ~ Dear Louisa, When I go to school games with a group of girls we usually get a hamburger afterwards. Not long ago the game was held up for a while and did not finish as early as usual. It was after twelve when I got home and I am supposed to be there at eleven. Now I am being punished for not getting home on time. Don’t you think this is unfair? M.A.-W. Va. Answer: Did you telephone your parents VCS News Volunteer Community Services of Kosciusko County is a clearinghouse between volunteers and nonprofit agencies. munity Services in Warsaw will be contacted to get a copy of the format they use, which may be used in an altered state for the needs in this area. It was reaffirmed that the services offered by Lakeland Services are on an emergency basis only — the first 24 hours will be the only concern, and from that point people will be referred to agencies in Warsaw.
©iffig after the game and get permission to stay out later? If not you should have by-passed the hamburger and gone home as soon as the game was over. There are so many awful things that can happen to young girls who are out, unescorted, at night so parents should have a definite time for their daughters to be in and, in case, they are not, find out where they are or if anything bad has happened to them. This rule is for your protection and later on you will probably be very glad that your parents love you enough and are concerned enough about your welfare to have these rules. How would you like to have parents — such as those one girl writes about — who are never home to know or care where she is or when she comes home? Louisa.
