Pageant. “Miss Kosciusko" goes on to the “Miss Indiana" Pageant and the winner there goes on to represent the state in the "Miss America" Pageant. The "Miss America" program is non-profit and all of those involved are volunteers. As the largest, single contributor of women's scholarships in the United States, the “Miss America" program attracts con-
testants for this reason The pageant divides scoring between four categories: interview, 30 percent; talent, 40 percent; swimsuit, 15 percent; and evening gown. 15 percent. Contestants must be between the ages of 17 and 26 and should have graduated from high school by the time the “Miss Indiana" pageant takes place. The Indiana pageant takes place the summer following the Kosciusko contest giving the Kosciusko winner nearly one year to prepare. Leigh Allison Woodward, the daughter of Richard and Luann Woodward of Warsaw, is 18. A graduate of Warsaw Community High School, she will attend DePauw University next year to major in economics and minor in art She will play the piano in the talent competition. She will dance in the talent competi tion. TRACILARENE CHAMBERLAIN The daughter of Larry and Sherlene Chamberlain, Traci Larene Chamberlain is 18 and a graduate of Warsaw Community High School. She will be attending Grace College in the fall where she will study elementary education. She will present a vocal performance in the talent segment. Fine Arts Campat Oakwood The third annual Fort Wayne Fine Arts Camp, sponsored by the Fort Wayne Children's Choir, will be held at Oakwood Center, on Lake Wawasee, Syracuse, Sunday, July 23 through Thursday, July 27. According to-the camp director, Sara Davis, each evening will feature a 7 p m. informal talent sharing time for faculty and students. The public is invited to attend these talent sharing events. Highlight of the week will be the Thursday evening, July 27. student open house. Ninety students from ages 8-14 are enrolled for this 4G-day experience in the arts All campers will attend morning core classes in creative movement, melody singing. Orff instrument playing, and painting, all designed to enhance the choral singing, which will be the last core class. Elective classes in recorder playing. music writing, acting, dance, synthesizer/computer, keyboard, voice. Origami, and "Explore an Instrument" (strings, percussion, and harp) will be held in the afternoons The camp is co-sponsored by Summit Christian College, and the IPFW Music Department
* 'W JENNIFER BRUMBAUGH Jennifer Brumbaugh of Syracuse is the daughter of Larry and Diane Brumbaugh. She is a recent graduate of Wawasee High School and is 18 years old. She will be attending Eastern Kentucky University in the fall where she will pursue a degree in occupational therapy. She will present a piano performance in the talent competition. Last year's winner, Shelly Sanders of Milford, will be giving up her crown at the end of judging on Saturday evening. Shelly is a 1986 graduate of Wawasee High School and is currently attending Texas Women's University, majoring in vocal performance. Shelly was named first runnerup in the "Miss Indiana" pageant on Saturday, June 24. in Michigan City. In addition, she won the talent preliminary during competition. First runner-up is the best that any “Miss Kosciusko" has ever done. VCS needs help Volunteer Community Services, 269-5531, is a clearinghouse between volunteers and nonprofit agencies in Kosciusko County. In VCS news, the “Volunteers are Priceless" award for June goes to Virginia DeVries of Winona Lake. She was a receptionist and typist in Chicago before her retirement. Now she is volunteering her time at the Combined Community Services and the American Red Cross. Below is a listing of volunteers who a re needed: Cardinal Center — Needs men or women io go with two adults to the Super Sixties luncheon on the third Wednesday of each month. Cardinal Center also needs a swimming assistant for two hours per week, beginning in August. Ameriqgn Red Cross — Needs help for the days after a CPR or First Aid class. Home Health Care — Needs registered nurses to work at the Well Child Clinic. Home Health Care also needs a knowledgeable person to help write for grant funding. American Cancer Society — Needs drivers to make trips to the Fort Wayne Oncology Center. Baseball camp at Plymouth The Billy Williams Baseball School, located seven miles west of Plymouth on US 30. will be conducting a Baseball ' College Tryout Camp July 23-28 Participants will include upcoming 1989-90 high school juniors and seniors, 1989 high school graduates, and current junior college players Persons interested in obtaining more information on the College Tryout Camp or any of the other programs offered by the school, should call (312) 655-1711 or (219) 936-7529 for more details
