'B9 Indiana State Fair offers best bargain ever
Visitors to the 1989 Indiana State Fair, August 16-27, will enjoy the best family entertainment bargain available in recent years. Admission and parking have been- lowered from last year, with visitors age 10 and under admitted free. The new Fall Creek’ Gate 6 Plaza, the second busiest entrance to the fairgrounds, will be open in time to welcome visitors. For the first time, the 32nd annual Queen Pageant finals are in the Carquest Coliseum, Saturday night, Aug. 12, to meet the demands of an ever-growing audience. Last year, 88 counties sent their queens to vie for the Miss Indiana State Fair title. To crown fair queen Saturday
Competition for the title of 1989 Kosciusko County Fair Queen will be held Saturday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart auditorium, Warsaw. This year’s contest sees 10 young ladies from throughout the county vying for the title. The competition, organized by a special committee in conjunction with the fair association, follows the same point system as the State Fair Queen competition. Contestantswill be judged in the following three categories: interview, swimsuit and evening gown. Judging the county contest will be Gerald Dennis, Fort Wayne; Debra Bonner, Columbia City, and Jane Bigler, Plymouth. All contestants will receive a plaque and other awards for their participation in the contest. The first and second runners-up will each receive a SSO savings bond. The queen will receive a SIOO savings bond in addition to her crown, trophy and numerous other gifts; she will also be on hand for the fair’s opening ceremony, July 30. The young lady named Kosciusko County Fair Queen will represent the county at the Indiana State Fair to be held Aug. 16-27. , Si jte&iMzOL BRUMBAUGH QUEEN CANDIDATE — Jennifer May Brumbaugh, daughter of Dianne Brumbaugh of Syracuse, is pursuing the Kosciusko County Fair Queen title. She is sponsored by Bontrager Pools, Inc. of Warsaw. Jennifer plans to attend Eastern Kentucky University to further a career in occupational therapy. She has won various academic and music awards. Jennifer loves to play the piano, read, paint and water-ski. VB B ' '' i COLLIER QUEEN CANDIDATE — Andrea Kelly Collier is running for Kosciusko County Fair Queen. Kelly is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ker of Warsaw. She will be a senior at Warsaw Community High School this' fall and enjoys being involved with Tigerettes, Student Council. Honor Society and SADD. Kelly’s future plans include college with a career in law. She enjoys reading, dancing, playing the flute and. the youth group at her church. She is. being sponsored by the Warsaw Tigerettes.

Opening day of the fair, August 16, includes the 15th annual Giant Hot Air Balloon Race, scheduled for lift-off at 7 am.; and the 42nd annual Band Day competition. Most events during the fair’s 12-day run are free, and for those fairgoers who don’t take along enough money, an automatic teller on the Cirrus network will be operation by fair-time at the entrance to the Universities Building. A major first-time exhibit in the Ag/Horticulture Building features Indiana’s popcorn producers, with displays, industry facts and a popcorn “cannon.” Also featured in a new Ag/Hort category, “Bailey’s Believe It or Not,” will be unusual or interesting exhibits which might be
.. | / FISHER QUEEN CANDIDATE — Shelly Bea Fisher, daughter of Lanny Fisher of Warsaw and Lana Fisher of Sidney, is a candidate for the Kosciusko County Fair Queen. Shelly will enter Whitko High School this fall as a senior. Her education plans include International Business College. She has received many awards for her dancing and has been associated with Karen’s School of Dance for seven years. The Maine-Anjou cattle breed, new to the fair, will exhibit and vie for blue ribbon prize honors. Sheep dogs will demonstrate their skills in herding, returning after a four-year absence. Everyone will enjoy dance, variety, banjo, old-time fiddler, statewide cheerleading competition, clogging, Disney classics and many more free performances. For the first time the baton twirling competition is open to twirlers from other states. A murder will be committed and solved four times when Kroger Lincoln Theatre presents “The Seance Murder Mystery.”
PLUMMER QUEEN CANDIDATE — Nancy Joan Plummer, daughter of Sherrill Plummer of Warsaw, is a candidate for Kosciusko County Fair Queen. Nancy is a graduate of Warsaw Community High School and attended Ravenscroft Beauty College. She would like to be a salesperson or make-up artist for a national cosmetic company. i i I r Flf DONATION TO PARK — A SSOO donation was given to the Syracuse Park Department by the Eastlund-Harris Funneral Home to go towards the new gazebo at Lakeside Park. Charlie Harris purchased the Carr Funeral Home in 1952 from Orville and Catherine Carr, parents of Jack Carr, Syracuse, and Dr. Stanley Carr, Goshen. The funeral home was at 413 South Main Street until 1976 when the new funeral home was built at SR 13 and CR 1000 N. Gary Eastlund joined Harris in 1965 and purchased the funeral home in 1985.
