A NUMBER of Milford women were on hand last Thursday to support Dorothea Kerlin as she participated in the Area II Senior Queen Contest at the Battell Senior Center in Mishawaka. Mrs. Kerlin represented Kosciusko County in the contest. The contest winner was Virginia Manley of Elkhart. Mrs. Manley, who participated as the Elkhart County Senior Queen, will represented Elkhart. Kosciusko. Marshall. LaPorte and St. Joseph counties in the Indiana State Senior Queen contest

Stolen car is used to damage mailboxes

Kosciusko County Police are investigating a number of thefts and vandalisms which took place in the Lakeland area during the past week. A car being reported as stolen was found damaged on SR 13, north of St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church. Syracuse. Leanna J. Eilenberger. 5556 E SR 124. Bluffton, notified police at 6:30 a.m.. Sunday. July 2. that her 1988 Honda Accord was stolen from her Lake Wawasee Home, at Pier 555. The car was taken between 10:30 pm.. Saturday. July 1, and6:3oa.m . Sunday. While she was giving countypolice the information on the vehicle, off-duty Syracuse Police Officer Bob Houser located the car while enroute home. The car had damage to the front end and a flat tire Police later determined the car was used to hit several mailboxes on Waco and South Shore Drives. No damage estimate was given. James King, r 4. Waco Dr . Syracuse, notified police at 7:49 a m.. Sunday, that a golf bag and golf clubs were taken from a car at his home. No value of the items was available. David J. Mayer, r 4 box 143A. Syracuse, reported the theft of a briefcase from the trunk of his 1988 Pontiac 6000 while parked at Burning mailboxes reported in Milford At approximately 1 a.m. Thursday. June 29. officer Dave Hobbs of the Milford Police Department, found a small fire in a newspaper mailbox. After the fire was extinguished. Hobbs says two other residents reported the same incident. According to Hobbs, newspapers which had been left in the boxes were ignited No similar reports haVe been reported to police No injuries os vehicles collide No one was injured in a twovehicle collision at 7:46 a m. Tuesday, June 28, in Goshen. Hubert Kirkdorffer, Jr., 68. 10 N. Shore Drive. Syracuse, was driving west on Jackson Street, stopped for Eighth Street, entered the intersection, and his 1980 Chevrolet CIO collided with a southbound 1988 Ford F 350 which was driven by Greg A. Hostetler, 26. Topeka Ptl. Ray C. Knowles set damage at more than $1,200. On Wednesday. June 28. at 11 a.m., Juan Flores. 18, Milford, driving a 1988 Honda moped from the access drive on Emeline Street in Milford at’ Bruce's Marathon turned left onto Emeline and was struck by a 1989 Mercury driven by Rosario Garza, 20, Milford She didn’t see Flores but he saw her in time to jump off the moped before the collision. He was not hurt His moped received SSOO damage. There was no to Garza’s auto. Milford marshal Dave Hobbs investigated.

Milford, has been placed on the dean’s list for the College of Education at Butler University. Indianapolis. To be eligible for the dean's list a student must receive a 4.0 grade average for a whole year Cris, a 1986 graduate of Wawasee High School, will be a senior at Butler University- this fall. She is majoring in elementary education with an endorsement in kindergarten. She will be student teaching at Lawrence North and Crooked Creek schodls, both in Indianapolis, this fall.

Officer David Curtis of the Kosciusko Sheriff's Department was assisted by officer John Miller of the Milford Police Department, in investigating a two-car accident which caused only minor injuries to both drivers. -According to police reports, Ralph G Biller, 44, Milford, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of CR 900 N and Old State Road 15 causing the collision. Reynaldo Vira, Jr.. 23. New Paris, was southbound on Old State Road, approaching the intersection, when Biller, who was eastbound, failed to stop. The accident, which occurred Thursday, June 29, at 8 p.m., caused between S2OO and SI,OOO damage to Biller's 1970 Ford Maverick and Reynaldo s 1986 Chevy Cavalier.

Milford, after she reported a window screen had been cut and removed from her home. Senff notified police on Monday. June 26. The incident occurred the evening of Saturday. June 24. Tammie Thompson, r 2 box 410. Syracuse, notified police after she found a picture window in her home broken and two tires cut on her car She also found a screen to the kitchen window pushed in and a garden hose cut up. Thompson reported the vandalism to police at 11:50 p m . Saturday. June 24. The vandalism occurred between 9-11 pm. that day. Milford Road grading on South Bend Bypass from the east urban area limits of South Bend to the Elkhart County line was awarded to the firm for $2,356,302 64. the late Opal Joy Harman George. The family recently returned home from vacationing in North Carolina, and visiting with members of Betty’s family near Richmond, Va. The Lamberts resided in their home on North East Street for 10 years, having purchased it from longtime Milford residents Gail and Freda Geiger. ATTENDING THE Miller Cousin Reunion at the town park in Middlebury, Sunday, July 2. were Neal and Arlene Cory, Milford, and Arlene’s sister and brother-in-law. Pauline and Carl Yoder of Goshen. The Corys also attended a golden anniversary open house for Joe and Edris Reiniche. who moved from Milford to their Goshen home during the late 40s. Joe had served as best man at the Corys' wedding. Joe Reiniches’ parents were the late Joe and Eva Reiniche, who resided for many years on West Section Street in Milford (now the home of Bob and Carolyn Auer). —o— WE RECEIVED an unusual engagement announcement from Michele Marie Miller and David Andrew Harmeyer this week and thought it should be shared with Michele's friends.

On Monday morning, her nephew and his wife, Robert and Marilyn Schick of Morrison, 111., stopped by on their way back to Illinois after visiting with Mrs. Schick’s parents in Kendallville. Anna has also had the pleasure of spending some time with her eight-month-old greatgranddaughter, Amelia Lyn Burns, daughter of Dan and Stephanie (Baumgartner) Burns, Sarasota, Fla. Amelia, along with her mother, and her grandparents, Steven and Linda Baumgartner, also of Sarasota, will be returning to Florida on Thursday morning after spending a week visiting friends and relatives in Milford. —o— WILLARD CONN, who lives on Old Mill Place, Tippecanoe Lake, boasts of living on the big lake since 1923 and only twice in those 66 years has he seen the boat traffic controlled due to high water. The first time was in 1982 when boat travel was reduced to idle speed and the second was earlier this summer when boat traffic was eliminated altogether until the water subsided to less threatening levels after heavy spring rains.
