Ribbon cutting at McDonald's on July 8

The official grand opening of the McDonald's Restaurant at SR 13 and Palm Drive, Syracuse, is going on now through the end of July. Saturday, July 8, will bring the official ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m., followed by a show with Ronald McDonald, concluding at 3 p.m. 'We’re looking forward to welcoming our neighbors to the new store,” said Rick Purcell, who with his wife, Jean, are owners/operators of McDonald's in Syracuse. “McDonald’s philosophy is to put back into the communities where we do business and we're looking forward to becoming a part of Syracuse.” Purcell also owns and operates the McDonald’s in Nappanee. The opening of the new facility in Syracuse has created 90 new

jobs. Purcell stated the crew people are “ready and eager to serve up McDonald’s famous QSC&V (quality, service, cleanliness and value.” - Grand opening events kicked off with a visit from Mac Tonight on Monday at 5 p.m. There are numerous activities and events occurring throughout the monthlong celebration. A frisbee contest is scheduled for July 29, where all contestants get a free ■ flyer” and the winner gets a free lunch. Some other grand opening events include a visit by Grimace on Thursday, July 6, for lunch and a free balloon; an all you can eat pancake supper from 5-8 p.m . on Wednesdays, July 12 and 19; a special priced Filet-O-Fish Fish Fry from 4 p.m., until closing on Friday. July 14; “Keep Syracuse Clean.” with free litter bags to be given away, all day while supplies last, on Sunday, July 16; a free beverage holder for breakfast customers will be given out on Monday, July 17, while supplies last and a Mcßib Barbecue is planned on Saturday. July 22. Twist cones will be offered at a special price on July 13,18. 24 and 28. A special offer of buy a sandwich. fry and drink on Thursday, July 27. though Sunday, and customers will get a free cone. McDonald's Frisbee Flyer's will be available on Sunday. June 9 and Thursday. Seventy- five percent of McDonalds restaurant businesses are locally owned and operated by independent entrepreneurs. Looking Back • Groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the restaurant on Saturday. Feb. 11. Construction began shortly afterwards with a completion date of July 4. The project was completed ahead of schedule and opened to the public on Wednesday. June 28. The full size McDonald's is 54 feet by 66 feet with a seating capacity for approximately 100 persons. There is a drive-thru window and 64 regular parking spaces, including spaces for handicapped and 10 truck parking spaces A "Playland" will be added in the future.
